It was black-and-white TV for us at school when we watched the Coronation of Princess Elizabeth back in May 1953 ...

Princess Elizabeth acceded to the throne on 6 February 1952, upon the death of her father King George VI. Her Coronation was over a year later on 2nd June 1953.

You must have watched the rehearsal John ;-))

May, 2 June, after 60 years, how much difference does a couple days make? (says a guy who wasn't born until a year later...)

My first TV that I owned was a B&W portable, mainly cause I couldn't afford a color version... But that was back in the 70's.

I watched the Coronation while in the USA. My first B/W TV was in 1966, while I was writing my thesis in Sistiana, near Trieste. Now I have two TV sets, a Philips analog with its decoder, bought in 1986, and a Samsung LED digital TV, bought this year. But I still remember my B/W TV set.

I'm bad at doing calculations in my head, but I think that in turn makes you 4 years older than me - if that was 13.5 younger than Donald and not 13.5 after the coronation. I think my brains have just started to send smoke signals...

I used to have a brain, but I left it in India way back during the 1947 handover troubles ...

I'd say. For not having a brain, your mind is working quite well, John! :)

Sounds like John is doing a good imitation of the Scarecrow from the Wizard of OZ...

The Scarecrow thought He lacked a brain, when all He needed was a diploma to boost His confidence in Himself, pretty smart guy that Wizard...

@Chris is quite right. But, to get the pickling fluids out of the tissue I have been holding the brain under a running tap since I got it back.

No, it was 13.5 after the coronation. Or to make it simpler, I am currently coming up on 46 and a half.

I don't know when my parents got their first TV, but I can't remember not having one.

I felt old when I was young. Later I somehow grew out of feeling old. Instead, I now feel timeless.
Maybe it's because I'm a novelist. The only job in which it is better to be OLD than to be BEAUTIFUL.
