Not bad for an event 60 years ago. It was 2nd June 1953.

That would be 13.5 years before I was born. My parents weren't even in high school yet.

'53 was only 7 years before I was born, mine were well past high school.

We didn't have TV in Africa in 1953, I saw the Pathe News special coverage in the Embassy Gardens in Asmara.

But we were in Niarobi in 1952 when King George died and went to see the new Queen Elizabeth II depart from the airport.

Later that year, we had moved to Khartoum, Sudan and were invited to go see the first commercial flight of a jet engined plane the Comet as it made one of its stops from London to Johannesburg in May 1952. That was probably my most memorable event that year, even more significant than starting school that year.

I was 8 then, and every schoolkid in the UK got given a coronation mug. It got broken or lost some years later, I was very sad about that. I would like to be here to see the next one, dunno if I will be though, her Maj is doing rather well :-)

I was almost 1 then. Has the Queen broke Queen Victoria's record yet?

Not quite yet!

Queen Victoria (Alexandrina Victoria; 24 May 1819 – 22 January 1901) was the monarch of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 20 June 1837 until her death. Her reign of 63 years and seven months, is longer than that of any other British monarch and the longest of any female monarch in history.

She will do in another 3-1/2 years in January 2017 :-)

Id say she has a very good shot at breaking it. Id like to see her do it.

Oh she'll do it, and a bit more besides! She knows that Charlie boy won't be the most popular Monarch there ever was, so she will put the inevitable off as long as possible, by never abdicating.

And then Charlie will want to insulate Will from it as long as possible, just so he can have a life.

Did I hear or just dream that they recently changed the law so that even if Will and Kate's first is a girl, she'll be next in line, regardless of whether she later has a brother?

A view of a building near where I was born 11 years before the Coronation. Everest was clearly visible from the Hospital that day, according to my mother

I think Prince Charles will only serve as king a short time. Then abdicate to Prince William. He well knows he is not well liked, And Camelia did not help him at all. I know I could google it but who was the King who abdicated in the 30's so King George the 5th could assume the crown?

Well I can't compete with some of the fancy places, My granddad was born in this cabin in Keystone SD in 1888, the pic is from 1899 and the cabin was built in 1882. This is a pic of "The Joseph Richard BOBIER Homestead"

I think you mean Edward VIII, who abdicated in 1936 to be with Wallis Simpson, and who was superseded by George VI, the present Queen's father.

Camilla Parker Bowles has already said that she will take the Title of Consort and not Queen, if and when when Charles accedes to the throne. She is currently titled the Duchess of Cornwall.

Is someone reading my family history?

Very close, Julie, but in the Indian sub-continent post the UK handover of 1947. I was born in Darjeeling, where the tea comes from. Close to the boarders of Nepal and Tibet ..

Not that I particularly liked all his music, but Kurt Cobain's daughter Frances Cobain is now a 20 year old model.

Wow I feel old.

Not really.

My parents determined my choice of nationality by registering me at Somerset House to ensure I was confirmed British.

Well after the 1947 handover, the then Indian Government did try to get some UK nationals to serve in the Indian forces. This was a consequence of the changes to International nationality laws (I believe) ...

If I could choose I would like the Gurkha nationality ...
