An older whose relationship would be able to withstand the stress of living in a confined environment for two years.

No Way!

in real life there is always a getout, the front door. In space for 2-4 years there ain't one! Bit of a sad indictment upon human relationships that we haven't seen a rush of couples willing to have a go ...

One-way Mars trip attracts 165,000 would-be astronauts ... and counting

I doubt this story, they plan to make a show of these would be astronauts.

The Mars One Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that will establish a permanent human settlement on Mars in 2023. A reliable surface habitat will be set up before the first crew lands; more settlers and cargo will follow every two years. Our plan is realistic because the technology needed already exists and can be purchased from the private space industry.

Q. Will we have the tecnology to do all this within 10 years?
Q. Where will the money comer from?

I just don't see it happening.

It seems you don't even have to pay that much either to join in so I've heard...

Q. Where will the money comer from?

I was wondering the same, being a non profit organization...

I would go, even though I probably wouldn't survive the entire trip,as a third crewman.

I agree. The likelihood is that a completely privately funded expedition to Mars isn't going to happen. At least not in out lifetimes.

I think it's a bit dubious.

Today Paul RΓΆmer agreed to become a Mars One ambassador. An established expert on grasping the attention of a global public, he was the co-creator of the worldwide phenomenon Big Brother – the television program that revolutionized reality television.

It's all about self-promotion. He knows full well it will never happen therefore he can safely say he'll go for it.

I wouldn't volunteer for this stuff, and I don't see it flying, but if there is any real effort made, then perhaps it will contribute to an overall technological understanding of how to do it safely in the future.
