There is absolutely no reason to leave, the views expressed about donations were from one individual who has a bee in his bonnet about donations.

Your crunching is as valuable to the project as anyone else donation or not!!

Green star or no green star, it doesn't matter. Those few donations that can be drummed up through the forum are a drop in the ocean. And everyone is participating.

0.27% of all SETI@home users or about 2.5% of the active users donate money to the project. I wrote more about it in this post. And even fewer of the users read the forum.

In other words: Most user think that they are contributing enough by crunching. And rightly so, crunching costs money too.

But perhaps some would be willing to contribute some of their time instead, if asked. Volunteers with the right skills and/or connections could write grant applications and find corporate sponsors. Some kind of organization would be required, and blessings from the project admins.

The problem as I see it is that the infrastructure at Berkley is not able to support the work we are asking for.
If the work were more complex, taking more time to process, the load on Berkley would be reduced.
The proposed autocorrelation will allow the project to look for much weaker signals than we presently do. That will cause the hosts to have to do much more processing per work unit. Instead of looking wider we will be looking deeper. That should help to reduce the load on the link to the world and at the same time scan the same volume of the universe.
What ever can be done to help the staff to get the autocorrelation on line is the best way to address the problem. Get more work out of the hosts with the same lab.
