If people think the Brits are a bit eccentric, cop this lot Currently, the deposit in elections to the House of Commons is £500, which must be handed in, in cash, banker's draft, or other forms of legal tender, when the candidate submits his or her nomination papers. It is refunded provided that the candidate gains one-twentieth (5%) or more of the total valid votes cast in the constituency. The list of candidates in alphabetical order is: COLIN BEX - Wessex regionalists DAVID BISHOP - Elvis Loves Pets Party JIM DUGGAN - Peace Party RAY HALL - Beer, Baccy and Crumpet Party HOWLING LAUD HOPE - Monster Raving Loony William Hill Party MARIA HUTCHINGS - Conservative DIANE JAMES - UK Independence Party DR IAIN MACLENNAN - National Health Action Party KEVIN MILBURN - Christian Party "Proclaiming Christ's Lordship" JOHN O'FARRELL - Labour DARREN PROCTER - Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition DANNY STUPPLE - Independent MIKE THORNTON - Liberal Democrats MICHAEL WALTERS - The English Democrats - "Putting England First!" Place your bets now folks, Ray's gotta be in with an outside chance, but could be a lot of lost deposits ..... :-) ____________ Damsel Rescuer, Kitty Patron, Raccoon Friend, Uli Fan, Julie Supporter, ES99 Admirer, PETA Member, 1st Childhood

Like many things in Canada, our politics are sometimes a watered down version of what goes on in the UK. Here's two that have run locally where I am, there may be others...

Good links Bill, many thanks. I would think they'd run under the Loyal Order of the Raccoon Party. ____________ ****** "Ask not, what your kitty can do for you. Ask what you can do for your kitty." As it is kitten, so shall it be done.

I'd love to comment, but that would be political and this is supposed to be the fun Cafe thread.

Would our esteemed Mods like to consider moving some or all of this thread to the Politics "surprise No.2" thread. Some of it might be might be more appropriate there.

Would our esteemed Mods like to consider moving some or all of this thread to the Politics "surprise No.2" thread. Some of it might be might be more appropriate there. clickable link to the politics thread ;) I think vote raccoon is perfectly fine here as are crumpets and peace lovers. The serious discussion can take place in politics. Eastleigh must have either a shortage of raccoons or of Cafe goers, that they didn't have a Raccoon party candidate! Ok, when and where are the next elections and where can we source raccoons? ____________ A person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read. (Mark Twain)

Ok, when and where are the next elections and where can we source raccoons? Local Council Elections Thursday 2 May 2013 Councils General Election 7 May 2015 General The 32 London borough councils (next election 2014) The 36 metropolitan district councils (next election 2014) The 201 district councils in two-tier authorities (next election 2014 in the 67 councils where members are elected by thirds, and 2015 in the 127 councils where all members are elected together) Well you asked!!! Local By-Elections happen all the time if Councillors or MP's die, stand down, or get de-selected. Eastleigh was important because it was held in Government Mid-Term and often gives a strong indication as to how the country is feeling. Angela might have a source of Raccoons that she could export?

Just because discussions are on the Poly side, doesn't mean they have to be moved. It just depends how serious you are.

I'd love to comment, but that would be political and this is supposed to be the fun Cafe thread. Which is why I made the suggestion. It just depends how serious you are. Fair comment Uli. Now back to fun business, is there a Raccoon party?

The "for", is implied. But, will insert for clarity. I figured that. Nothing like a little fun though. However, the elephants and donkeys might have more sense than we do - just go with the flow... ____________ BOINC WIKI
