Like many things in Canada, our politics are sometimes a watered down version of what goes on in the UK. Here's two that have run locally where I am, there may be others...

The Natural Law Party, aka the Flying Yoga Party, got an astounding 0.63% of the popular vote in 1993, thats tens of thousands of people who thought magician Doug Henning should be our Prime Minister. Downhill since.

The Rhinoceros Party, reformed a few years ago, don't seem to be as much fun as the 1980s version, which really knew how to, um, Party. Got 0.02% of the vote in 2011 nationally, but as high as 0.6% in fun loving parts of Quebec.

And the usual assortment of right wing crazies like the Christian Reform, mostly Dutch people

and the just plain goofy: Pirate Party, Radical Marijuana Party, the Canadian Extreme Wrestling Party, etc.

We still have a Communist party, they actually had a sitting member of Parliament back in the 50s and 60s.

Good links Bill, many thanks.

I reckon we should start up the SETI party, Eric for President, and Angela for Secretary of State. Lets face it, we couldn't do any worse the the current lot ....

I would think they'd run under the Loyal Order of the Raccoon Party.

I'd love to comment, but that would be political and this is supposed to be the fun Cafe thread.
Before I put on the heavey gear and peek into the politics forum, is there already a discussion thread there?

ok, crumpets outnumber partygoers, with peace close after it. Looks like Elvis' pets werent' such a stir.

Mhm crumpets... getting peckish.

Would our esteemed Mods like to consider moving some or all of this thread to the Politics "surprise No.2" thread. Some of it might be might be more appropriate there.

clickable link to the politics thread ;)

I think vote raccoon is perfectly fine here as are crumpets and peace lovers.

The serious discussion can take place in politics.

Eastleigh must have either a shortage of raccoons or of Cafe goers, that they didn't have a Raccoon party candidate!

Ok, when and where are the next elections and where can we source raccoons?

Just because discussions are on the Poly side, doesn't mean they have to be moved. It just depends how serious you are.

... is there a Raccoon party?

Yes. Whenever two or more racoons get together with a bottle.

Why would elephants and donkeys vote?

The "for", is implied. But, will insert for clarity.

As to why they wouldn't vote -- perhaps, their priorities are
more reasonable to them. Of course, not everyone of us votes,
either -- different priorities, again, I guess.

I figured that. Nothing like a little fun though. However, the elephants and donkeys might have more sense than we do - just go with the flow...
