The 48 core GT610 worked great in my HP 7600 core duo E8300. What am I doing wrong that I can't get the 96 core GT620 to do any more work then the GT610? They both just chug away adding about 4000 stones per day each in two identicle PCs.

I gave up after about 6 hours of research.

sadly those GPUs are fairly low end products. Using an nVidia 680 for an example you see it has 1536 cores.

IIRC its not necessarily the cores but the memory and clock speed at which these WU's can be processed.

Looking again at the 680 you will also be able to run 3 WU's at a time using an app_info. so you see even with a high end card you have limitations. Essentially, you can use 512 per WU. This again is much more than what you are currently capable of.

Long story short. You get out of a product pretty much what you paid for it. Want top performance? you'll be spending a quite a bit to attain it

I bought these small GPU units because they fit into my existing machines. It is just an experiment on cost v. production. The duo core 2.83 produces a miserly 1000-1500 cobblestones per day at 60-70 Watts measured at the plug.

The GT610 produces an additional 4,000 for only 20 more watts (total 90 watts at the plug) for a total of about 5000 coblestones per day. I was hoping the GT620 with twice the cores would add an additional 4000 credits for a total near 10,000 stone per day at 110 watts total. Too bad, really.

Still, I would like to know if there is something I can to to get them to work the extra 48 cores. Probably not. But I also happen to have a larger 192 core unit to play with. The guy at the shop and I may attempt to drive this bigger GPU with an atom processor board. If that works it might be fun to see if the atom board (about $80? and next to no watts) could feed one of the giant GPU's.

The guy seems to know what he is doing. He has a water cooled gaming computer so I am relying on his advice to try some off-the wall stuff for fun.

The 610 is a low end GPU It's not really going to do much for you.
