I fully agree with Chris. The plain, salt only, chips (as we Colonials call them) are hard to find, but they are still out there if you look. I think the flavoured ones use a lot of synthetic flavours, and that is what turns me off. Love artifical cherry and artifical banana, but everything else brings images of test tubes and oil refineries to mind when I eat it. |

A long while back, on my first ever trip to the United States, I remember ordering "Turkey Leg & Chips" in one of the theme parks. To my horror they handed me a roasted leg of a dinosaur (it was HUGE!) and a bag of crisps. I looked at them like they were stupid and they looked at me the same. Oh how naive I was :p |

I only like these. Exactly what I don't like. I don't eat a lot of chips any more. Bad for both my diet and my teeth (or lack thereof). David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

A long while back, on my first ever trip to the United States, I remember ordering "Turkey Leg & Chips" in one of the theme parks. Lol. Eating turkey legs in that type of setting is a relatively new phenomenon in the U.S. I think I may have had one once at the Taste of Chicago, a summertime event where restaurants from all over the city serve their food from tents on a closed street in the middle of a large downtown park. The original idea was that they would serve small portions so one could sample multiple delicacies without totally blowing one's diet, or getting sick on all the food. But the economics of the whole thing demanded that they serve larger and larger portions to make a profit. I only go once every few years. That was where I had my first, and I think so far last, deep fried Twinkie. Also where I had, IIRC, pizza with alligator on it. [quote]deep fried Twinkie. Also where I had, IIRC, pizza with alligator on it. Oh WOW! To both :p I had deep fried Ice Cream in a Chinese Restaurant over here one evening. That was certainly odd! I bet Alligator tastes like Chicken?! Seems to be the default flavour for anything that isn't Pork, Beef, or more recently in the UK, Horse! |

deep fried Twinkie. Also where I had, IIRC, pizza with alligator on it. Come to think of it, the Taste was also the first place I had fried ice cream. Probably hte best too. I just had it recently and it wasn't very good. I think the gator was a little bit fishy. I was at the store yesterday and decided to try one or two of the new test flavors from (I think it's Lays). They didn't have them. Not any of them. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

Sometimes when I have some extra cash and I get the munchies I go and get some Fritos chips, this is one of My favorite types outside of either Mission Tortilla Strips or Goldfish snack crackers. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Bleah. On the rare occasion when I blow my diet with Fritos, I get plain. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

Walker's salt and viniger crisps are strongly flavoured. I used to call them "acetic acid and rock salt crisps". Too strong. Like others I prefer the plain or salted ones ... It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |

Over the yeas I must have tried just about every flavour of crisps going. Most I find to be poor imitations of what they are meant to be, some totally unpalatable, a few I might try again, but three work for me salted, salt & vinegar, salt and (black)pepper. Packet OK, but home made far better (ad so easy to make, if a little messy...) Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |
