Continued here from the discussion about Cafe Games thread but Chris does not care for flavored chips. He is a potato purist. I find that the UK flavoured crisps, especially the salt 'n vinegar ones, are just too strongly flavoured for my taste and leave a long lasting tang in your mouth. And it is actually hard to find plain crisps here these days, it's all flavoured stuff. And yes we even had hedgehog flavoured crisps at one point! The USA plain ones I tried I quite liked. Now, these babys were the business, complete with a little blue paper screw of salt to sprinkle on them, or not, to suit your taste. I remember them in the 1950's when they were 4d a packet old money, then they relaunched them in the 1980's as salt-n-shake. Ah, the good old days .... real crisps, penny chews, sherbert fountains, frozen Jubblys, Dandelion and Burdock ..... Oooer I feel all light headed, anyone got any Sal Volatile? ____________ Damsel Rescuer, Kitty Patron, Raccoon Friend, Uli Fan, Julie Supporter, ES99 Admirer, PETA Member, 1st Childhood

I fully agree with Chris. The plain, salt only, chips (as we Colonials call them) are hard to find, but they are still out there if you look.

A long while back, on my first ever trip to the United States, I remember ordering "Turkey Leg & Chips" in one of the theme parks.

I only like these. Exactly what I don't like. I don't eat a lot of chips any more. Bad for both my diet and my teeth (or lack thereof). ____________ David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri.

A long while back, on my first ever trip to the United States, I remember ordering "Turkey Leg & Chips" in one of the theme parks. Lol. Eating turkey legs in that type of setting is a relatively new phenomenon in the U.S. I think I may have had one once at the Taste of Chicago, a summertime event where restaurants from all over the city serve their food from tents on a closed street in the middle of a large downtown park. The original idea was that they would serve small portions so one could sample multiple delicacies without totally blowing one's diet, or getting sick on all the food. But the economics of the whole thing demanded that they serve larger and larger portions to make a profit. I only go once every few years. That was where I had my first, and I think so far last, deep fried Twinkie. Also where I had, IIRC, pizza with alligator on it. ____________ David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri.

[quote]deep fried Twinkie. Also where I had, IIRC, pizza with alligator on it. Oh WOW! To both :p I had deep fried Ice Cream in a Chinese Restaurant over here one evening. That was certainly odd! I bet Alligator tastes like Chicken?! Seems to be the default flavour for anything that isn't Pork, Beef, or more recently in the UK, Horse! ____________

Best ever potato crisps - a friend's home cooked, from potatoes grown on her allotment, and cooked by my fair hand.

deep fried Twinkie. Also where I had, IIRC, pizza with alligator on it. Come to think of it, the Taste was also the first place I had fried ice cream. Probably hte best too. I just had it recently and it wasn't very good. I think the gator was a little bit fishy. ____________ David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri.

I was at the store yesterday and decided to try one or two of the new test flavors from (I think it's Lays). They didn't have them. Not any of them.

Sometimes when I have some extra cash and I get the munchies I go and get some Fritos chips, this is one of My favorite types outside of either Mission Tortilla Strips or Goldfish snack crackers.

Bleah. On the rare occasion when I blow my diet with Fritos, I get plain. ____________ David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri.

Over the yeas I must have tried just about every flavour of crisps going. Most I find to be poor imitations of what they are meant to be, some totally unpalatable, a few I might try again, but three work for me salted, salt & vinegar, salt and (black)pepper. Packet OK, but home made far better (ad so easy to make, if a little messy...)
