Why do the devoutly religous search for E.T. life?

Many are not shy about expressing theirs. And shout it at anyone else who expresses contrary beliefs. Those sitting in silence might have something to teach the shouters. But those shouting are not listening. At times listening to the zeal here, it saddens me as it seems some still miss the "good old days".. you know.. the inquisition.. the burning times.. delivering the "word of god" at the end of a sword or gun.. And it does NOT include killing those that do not agree with me. Or killing those who would stand in the way of my imposing my religion upon those who might not wish to accept it or do not understand it. History, unfortunately, if rife with such.
