Could see nothing here at 0430 local time. Not even the bright flash that would have said NASA had got it wrong :) T.A. |

Actually, the asteroid pass is this afternoon (Central time, which you are), not yesterday. Besides I think the relevant agencies only know of perhaps 1% of all the asteroids that orbit near the earth, or at least that's what I've read, so the one that supposedly hit Russia could be an unknown one that went under the radar as it were. Both links are for Friday the meteor that exploded over Russia on Friday morning, not the much larger asteroid that is passing by as I type. The Russian Meteor was about 15 hours too earl and only about 10% or so of DA14. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

A little more OMG from Sky News interviewing the Meteor Curator at a London museum Scientist: "One object was travelling (roughly) N to S, the other S to N so definitely unconnected." Anchor: "Is there a scientific term for that?" Scientist: "Yes, we call it Sod's law". |

Since Friday afternoon's event was very much a "non-event", and has now passed by, this thread is being locked. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |
