Guy e-mailed me a couple of hours ago and asked me to set up this thread, as his RAC has fallen below the posting threshold. I am happy to do so.
Worm also e-mailed me, and asked me to say something snarky about the president, as well. I am happy to do so.
So, as we watch (or not watch) the SotU Address, I wish you to know ... the kitty I rescued about a year ago is asleep. Apparently she's not all fired up by Mr. Obama.

The government does not create jobs. It creates debt.

I also work for the government. It is by debt I'm also paid. The government makes nothing but debt. If the government took in taxes to pay for my WORK it wouldn't be by debt I was paid. The government borrows to pay my check. As they do your job. The government spends more then it takes from it's tax base.

First, let me admit I didn't see or hear the US State of the Union address. So bearing that in mind here are the headlines:-
Lots of things said about how well the state was doing in these hard times.
How proud to be the leader of the fine nation.
Keep an eye out for the bad guys over there.
Doing his bit for the economy.
Lots of flowery words that don't stack up in the light of day.

Probably missed a few local issues, but that list covers just about every such address I've ever heard.

Question. Are "State of the Union" speeches meant to say anything?

I would say they can only put the spotlight on the positives and hope that the negatives remain in the shadows.

Therefore it has to be a speech about nothing and pure hopes for the future, and therefore the least commented about the better.

They are just a place where the President can pat himself and his cronies on the back for what a great job they are doing.
Its worhtless.

Its worthless.

Edited it for clarity for you. :)

Yet with this "debt", as you call it, you have money to pay your bills and otherwise put back into the "economy at large", including to buy goods from a privately-owned company such as ... gasp ... Wal-Mart (or insert whatever company you prefer). Thus, they have the opportunity for profit and to create jobs for their associates.

If you wish to have a real discussion on this, quoting a short line from Reagan from 30 years ago won't cut it.

Have a similar one from, say, 8 to 12 years ago?
