A flurry of warlike statements from Pyongyang has prompted speculation that a launch could happen on 15 April, when the country marks the 101st birthday of the nation's founder and former leader, Kim Il-sung.

We will see ....

China might be frustrated by the Pyongyang's behaviour but it is still the North's lifeline, so Beijing is unlikely to cut vital supplies of food and fuel since it feels that may make the North even more desperate and unpredictable, our correspondent adds.

Again, we will see ....

Any further restrictions of aid to NK shall only hurt the already abused populace, not the idiotic regime of Fatkim.

Let us all pray that the 15th passes without any real idiocy shown.

I suspect that Kim Jong is revelling in all this centre stage attention that he
is getting. He isn't going to do anything silly for he knows he will be wiped
out. If he's mad enough to try something stupid then wait for the NK press
release, "Kim Jong Dead".....shot by his senior Generals.

But if he fires a missle over the mainland of Japan, And they shoot it down. Who knows what is going to hit the fan.

I can only hope that the radar computer doing the tracking is real damn fast on what the trajectory is.

If Japan for an instant thinks it will impact, I expect they will release a rapid and devastating response.

I'm more concerned about a technical failure of the rocket. The dang thing having an engine or guidence failure in flight so it ends up on a path to impact Japan when the intended flight path was past Japan.

Kim is crazy enough to attempt to launch one over Japan. Big time dangerous game considering the success rate they seem to have. All it takes is one part failing and he'll get his war.

I am just happy Kerry went to China, and the two countries are talking. I want China and the US to be on the same page, and that can only happen through dialog.

C.I.A are up to there old tricks again remember Iraq had W.M.D until we got there

That's not entirely fair, it should be borne in mind that the British MI6 also agreed with the prior assessment of the CIA. And there have been reports that WMD WERE found but were so old and obsolete they couldn't have been used in anger anyway. Of course Iraq hyped up its capability, it's what you do when your back is against the wall.

The BBC says Mr Kerry is likely to tell Chinese leaders that unless they do more to rein in North Korea, the US will be obliged to keep on focussing strategically on the region - something that makes China nervous. But correspondents say that it is unclear whether Beijing has the political will to do so, and that while Beijing is growing increasingly frustrated with Pyongyang, it is likely to continue supporting the status quo, rather than risk creating instability across its border.

Time for China to step up to the plate I think.

@Blurf - is NK targetting Japan as a country, or USA military bases in Japan? Treaty Either way the USA will protect Japan.

I saw/read 1 or 2 reports that the state news agency in NK has named Tokyo as a major target.

In the gulf war in the 90's we let Saddam stay in power and had to go back a decade later . In wwII the brits signed a treaty with Adolf and well .....! .Sitting back worried that things will get bad if we take fatkim out now sound like a very dangerous thing to do !
It is going to get ugly what ever we do but the more we wait the badder it will get and the more time he has to make cosy with rogue contry's like Iran or cosy with the Backstabbers Pakistan then it won't be bad it will turn into End of Days stuff and I think both China and the U.S need to remember that we are not that far from the oil running out 3-15 yrs depending on whom's report you read and that alone is going to make things ugly
Get fatkim now and show the nutters that the world will no longer tolerate rogue states and be done with him
Waiting will only play in his favour

I think that NK will collapse at some point, and it would seem better to control that fall now with diplomacy than later with war. It is only a matter of time. War is not a good option. China may hold the key to collapsing the NK government, but in a controlled fashion.

I'm probably going to get blasted for this in one way or another but......

I think we've gone as far as we can as individual nations. Its time for nationhood to end.

We're all living on this single planet & its time we all worked together to pool resources to move onwards & upwards.

Population too heavy? Then work hard on technology & the sciences, get back into space in a big way & start colonising.....

...before its all too late....

...FOR EVERYONE!

It will take a bigger international threat than lil' ole N. Korea to bring all nations under one government.

The only problem is that threat would have to be from an entity outside our planet and if and when that threat appears we are all toast.

The BBC were quite wrong to "use" the LSE in that way and possibly put innocent students at risk, and quite rightly should be publicly rebuked, and if necessary fined. But the resulting programme is still valid nevertheless, and given the current tensions in the Korean peninsular, it should be aired.

All sounds like some extremely junior level paper pusher said okay and the bosses didn't find out until later.

I could yet be proved wrong, but I believe that Kim has played the game better than daddy ever did.

Kim has managed to scare the crap out of the entire world. Think about it. How many millions if not billions of dollars have the allies spent scrambling to defend all of southeast Asia from a nuclear attack? All he had to do was shoot his mouth off while holding a birthday party for his grandfather. Hell, he even held a marathon race. Not too shabby for the rookie.

Now, the big question is whether the kid is smart enough to see that enough is enough.
