Hi Zhao, yes, we both agree that Western intervention in North Korea could
destabilise our position/relationship with your government in China. So to be
involved in this North Korean situation the West must then work closely along-side China.
The end result being that once Kim Jong has been squashed China then acts as the
overseer to North Korea but not the West. I don't suppose it will ever come to
this as Kim Jong can see the Chinese army massing on his countries boarders. I
think your government is giving him a clear message here, "One false move pal and
we'll have you out"....This is the message that Glenn Savill is hoping China is
trying to get over to Kim Jong.

One of the biggest problems in North Korea is the "cult" of leader worship. When you have a leader that is revered as a "god" by a large proportion, not necessarily a majority, of the populace then it is very difficult for a replacement to rise up to ease him out of that seat. The violent over-throw, either internal or external force does little to calm the fears of the "believers", so they go underground, hide for some time, then come out fighting the new regime. One way of replacing such a leader is to progressively discredit him, but that's a long slow job, and is even more problematic when the "worshipped leader" is already dead. the best we can hope for is that the current leadership will do something that will p-off enough of the "key worshippers" to cause the system to fragment, and the worshipped leader to be shown to them to be an empty box who did nothing but harm to the country.
I can think of several such events, but they are all "less than desirable" to those on the ground.

I disagree, the one thing Genaral MacArthur did right was keeping Emperor Hirohito in power after Japan surrendered in WW2. And the Empereor was considerd a GOD.

The problem with N. Korea is that they have no vast oil reserves nor anything else that the rest of the world needs. China propped them up for all these many decades to stir the pot and force the US to pour millions of dollars into defending S. Korea and Japan. Now that N. Korea has become an embarrassment to China they have little or no help from any quarter. I still wonder if Kim can be persuaded to go into exile as long as he can take all his material wealth with him if his only other option is a war he can only loose.

North Korea workers fail to turn up at Kaesong

North Korean employees have not reported for work at the Kaesong Industrial Complex, suspending one of the few points of co-operation between North and South Korea.

I have been on pins and needles for the last couple of days waiting to see if NK follows through on their purported imminent missile launch. And the response to it, should it actually occur.

Japan has already stated that if such a missile launch was made, even if OVER their territory, they shall shoot it down.

My fear is that I may come home from work and find that Pingpong of NK is now in charge of a land made of glass sands. And that he has taken many innocent lives with him.

I continue to pray that this shall not happen, and it is just the cyclical nature of NK posturing that has once again ebbed and flowed.

A single bullet, properly aimed, could diffuse the situation....or inflame it, I dunno.

It seems that they are close to firing what they will call a "test" missile. Depends whether it is "over" japan or not, and if Japan reacts by shooting it down. It will be seen as an act of aggression by Japan, because no matter how high it flies, it could malfunction and crash on the Japanese mainland.
