I think that I have Urbanophobia...I hate Large Cities. It's why I moved to the country. Too many People Crammed Together in Cities. I also suffer from Mild Claustrophobia and A Mild fear of Heights. Thoughts, Ideas or other Phobia Sufferers? Please Stay On Topic. I Desire Peace and Justice, Jim Scott (Mod-Ret.) |

Interesting, I'm not sure if severe anxiety qualifies as a phobia, it probably doesn't, but that's what I have and Ya have My sympathy Jim. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Busy crowded places, meeting new people, social situations in general. Not sure which general phobia that is? Also horrible fear of heights. Again don't know the technical name for that phobia. #resist |

Don't much care for spiders and snakes. When they appear unexpectedly. Fortymile Photo |

John, your acrophobia sounds like mine. I have a great fear of heights, when the heights are the kind our species evolved through: climbing trees, going up ladders, standing on chairs, etc. scares me very deeply. For several years I made my living sitting in the doorway or standing on the skids of helicopters while running the hoist and other devices. It was great fun, until we got down to about 20 feet above ground. Then the fear set in. I also have a great fear of people who claim they want to talk about politics but actually want to talk about their illogical belief in unsupportable theories. Does that have a name? |

That might be Dumasaphobia(if that's real, supposedly that's 'the fear of stupid people', turns out there is no fear of stupid people according to this link here).... Of course I can't find that on the web, or rather Google can't find more than a commercial website.... The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Automatonophobia- Fear of ventriloquist's dummies, animatronic creatures, wax statues - anything that falsely represents a sentient being. Or,the fear of idiots is idiophobia, not to be confused with the similar-sounding ideophobia, which means "fear of ideas." I Desire Peace and Justice, Jim Scott (Mod-Ret.) |

Fear of heights. Airplanes are not a problem, ladders and cliffs are... Exactly. Anyplace where I can fall. Somehow, the whole plane falling out of the sky doesn't seem to count. But in my case it also includes the window boxes in the Sears, I mean Willis, Tower in Chicago. I probably wouldn't be afraid of those if I didn't weigh so much. (Never mind that I haven't been up in the Tower since I was a little kid, let alone in the couple of years since they installed the boxes.) Busy crowded places, meeting new people, social situations in general. Not sure which general phobia that is? Crowded places is agoraphobia, from the Latin word agora -- marketplace. It only affects me if it's so crowded I can't move freely or if I might get swept along in a mob against my will. I feel it's actually related in that way to my claustrophobia, which only kicks in if I feel like I can get trapped in a confined space. Again, I think these are all due to, or at least exacerbated by, my weight and its related problems. Busy crowded places, meeting new people, social situations in general. Not sure which general phobia that is? If the crowd starts sweeping you along, plant your feet in front of you nad lean back into the crowd. I did this once when people were rushing down a stari case to get into a door (no, it was not an emergency), but it was dangerous as people might fall down the stairs. In any case, I slowed the crowd somewhat, and nobody fell - including me. BOINC WIKI |

I'm not too fond of spiders and Eric is not too fond of heights, but I'm not sure either of us have it bad enough to call it a phobia. |

Yes, it does. msattler would be the name. And I am not ashamed of it for one second, my friend. I have been called many things over the years, and trust me, there is nothing YOU can call me that would offend me for more than a split second. If it soothes your soul to place a label on me....feel free. I have broad shoulders, and I can carry the weight. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Aren't you suffering from lowRACophobia? I am indeed. Eric and I needed to attend a family event this afternoon at my great aunt's house. I had forgotten about it until recently. That was the time I had hoped Eric would use to fix my computer. Oh well.... |

A phobia is an irrational fear. My fear of heights is quite reasonable! ;) I have other fears that might be unreasonable. Janice |

I do not like snakes. If I get suprised by one by allmost stepping on it, I freak. I dont even like turning a page in a book or magazine and seeing one. I dont like heights much either, But I can work through the fear. As a volunteer fireman I had no problems going up the ladder to get on a roof. it was getting back down. [/quote] Old James |
