I have BOINC setup as a service, and it's working OK, except... In my preferences, I have it set to NOT work when the computer is in use, and wait for 10 minutes of idle-time before restarting. That's not working... It's running constantly. I have to go into Services and pause the service to use the computer. Anybody else got this working correctly? Are you trying to use separate preferences for work/school/home? They don't appear to work, only the general prefereces do. Other than that, I'm not sure. |

> Are you trying to use separate preferences for work/school/home? I've been playing with it a bit more... I deleted the work preference and tried just in general. Didn't work. So, I tried setting a time-of-day restriction. That one works. Even in a work preference where the general doesn't have one. If I run the GUI program (in Windows), it obeys both/either restriction. Must just be something about it being a service that it doesn't pay attention to user-activity... Even if it's allowed "to interact with desktop". During one of their recent "server burps", all of my hosts that were set to use "Work" preferences got reset to "Home" (which was my default). When I went to BOINC site Account pages, I had to log in again, and all of the Host info on the web site was correct. I believe if I had run Update on the affected Hosts, it would have downloaded the prefs again, and they would have started following the time-of-day restrictions. However, the project was unreachable during that period, so I had to manually edit the client_state.xml file and change the "venue" line. Check to see if your hosts running in the correct venue. They DO work, IF the Host is looking at the right venue prefs. (It will say which location it's using when BOINC starts up.) |

> They DO work, IF the Host is looking at the right venue prefs. All my computers have the correct venue. All have updated pref's successfully. When BOINC is run on the desktop, it obeys all restrictions. When run behind the scenes as a service, it doesn't seem to pay attention to user-activity. Login is slow as molasses. Once I'm logged in and finally have Task Manager open, the client is gobbling the CPU load. Try to open any program, and the client continues to fight for the processor. The only way to make the system usable is to stop or pause the service. TTFN, Nemo "Pray that there's intelligent life somewhere out in space, 'cause there's bugger-all down-here on Earth!" |

I started using boinc as a service and have the same issues. Mike |

I've also had that problem before and I corrected it by re editing my prefs. Open your prefs, change it to work always, save it. Re open the prefs change it back to not work during computer use and save it again. Quit boinc and restart it. I hope it will work for you as it did for me. Note that I'm not using any other prefs than the general one. Best regards Marc |

If I run boinc using the gui the computation will pause and start after the computer is idle for 15 mins as I have set it up. Mike |

I had the same prob, I fixed it by removing bionic from the startup folder, rebooting, starting it manually and then putting the shortcut back in the startup folder |
