Not to mention the hardware. That motor sound in Bullit? Was not a Ford. It had almost the same hemi that the chaser Charger did. The producers knew they could run.

And fact of the matter?
The filming chase cars almost lost them on the final sequence. If not for the staged crash into the gas pumps, they would have been long gone.
I once drove a stock 440 charger.....nothing special. I could have taken any car on the street with it. ANYTHING except my .69 Pontiac Lemans drag car.. Lord Almighty, yeah. It not only had torque coming off the ramp, but it would wind like there was not limit. I was watching the road more often than the tach, but I'll bet it was doing 6-7 freakin grand top end...
I never did top end the Pontiac with the 500 cube plant. It was a drag car. Light to light. Nobody ever beat me with that, but I suspect the top end mighh have been sacrificed to make a few drag points. It did rev out pretty fast.
Probably 4:90 or so gears. Makes you go fast from the lights, but not so for top end.

I had a Buick GS400 that would top out at 7,500, and that motor was built to th hilt. The lifters would start to float. Crank, rods, and the rest were sill ready to rock. The mopars in the flick were stone freaking stock. Couple of them were boneyard motors that the crew bought to make do with. They had no money to build special motors. And did not need to,

And ever notice the initial mustang charge? One wheeled wonder. No freakin' posi axle. OMFG.


Oh, and I almost forgot......we were talking about crappy Pontiacs.

Watch 'Short Time'. Oh, sh=t...LOL. I was not involved in the filming or staging, but from the sound of it, that was no stock 6 little box they were staging. It was built.

And the car it was chasing was a big block Bonneville. Rumour has it, like the
Blues Brothers sequences through the underground, they were shot 'at speed.'

I blew a lot of #8 rods in 455 Buick motors pushing them that hard.

It has to do with the very underpinnings of the rights our founding fathers wished to grant us.
And the reasons I have been using for years to justify my rantings on these forums.

NOT so true, because I acknowledge the fact that those who administer there forums have the equal right to limit and take whatever means they deem necessary to maintain whatever level of decorum they consider appropriate here.

Lenny Bruce took it a bit too far, I think.
Carlin was my favorite.
