The hdd on one of my crunchers was going bad, luckily I had a spare that was the same size. It was the same model, just a year newer. I ended up using Ghost 2003 to clone the hdd to the spare. Not having used Ghost for five or six years I ended up cloning the spare to the failing drive. Which, when you think about it shouldn't have worked if the drive was as bad as Windows was making it out to be. Windows error at boot - Something along the lines that the S.M.A.R.T. status was too bad to continue using, back it up now.

Oh well, I was going to reinstall XP on that computer sometime anyway. Tried to install boinc_6.10.58_windows_x86_64.exe - CPU not supported. It's an Athlon XP 2200+. I installed 6.12.34 OK. The scheduler resent the lost tasks, all was well.

I went to the 'my computers' page to merge the two. I noticed that the message showed that there were two sets of computers that were merged. My main AMD 8150 was merged with something and removed from the list. When I updated the project from that PC I received a new cross project ID and it abandoned all of the work I had and downloaded new.

So I'm not sure what happened, sorry to my wingmen, but I'm back to crunching again. I wish you were able to choose which machines you want to try to merge.

The tasks have been sent back out by now, no harm done.

And for future reference it is advisable to set "no new tasks" and finish off your cache before attempting the merge.

Things like that happen all the time.
