I got tired of the last thread where people just gave pot shots of songs with no explanation of why they were relevant to them.
Just did not cut it.

This thread is to make an attempt at something maybe a little more soul searching.

Please do not post a song unless you have a reference to just WHY you are posting it.

I'll start with this cut by AJ Croce, the son of dearly missed Jim Croce.
It has a relevance to me because the one I love, Lori, has heard these words from me so many times before. I'm leaving the bar, honey. I'll be home soon.

When somebody sings about life, grief, happiness or sadness, I listen very closely because I know most times they are trying to share something with me in a way that I never was able to but always wished I could.

For so many reasons.
First of all, because I was at his very last performance at Alpine Valley.
But perhaps most importantly, I recognize his triumph over alcohol and drugs shortly before he left us. This song means something special to me and most other addicts because he was able to overcome something most of us have yet to master.

There are two versions of this song that I wish to share with you.
Oooooops, I guess that's three.
Both are significant because the writer, John Prine, is in my mind more significant to the everyman than John Dylan ever became.

Dylan had his ideals and all......snuck my another of true loves at the time, Baez, out from under my feet. She eventually wised up to him as well.

Anyway, Prine always forever and still does.....connect with the boots in the cowpasture everyday, butt scratching, where my horse done gone, American cowboy.

But, Prine wrote another gem one day.........

As to the 'sisters'......
If memory serves, Patty was always called the 'plain looking' sister, the ugly duckling as she were.
Uh, I would have taken her just as soon as the other two. Her voice was just as necessary to the trio as the others.
No debate about who was better looking than the others. All I knew was what hit the ol' RCA mike. And hit it, they did.t

A classic they did was Rum and Coca Cola.....Listen to the lyrics, it was rather tamed down by the time it hit the streets. The lines about 'making love in hot sun then cool off' were not the same when this was first recorded.

BTW, a very wondderful recording of same.
Were there not some very stict things about mixed race relations going on at the time? Could be wrong, but if I recall, something about American and anything south of the border was not looked upon favorably.
