Some explanation.......
I got tired of the last thread where people just gave pot shots of songs with no explanation of why they were relevant to them.
Just did not cut it.

This thread is to make an attempt at something maybe a little more soul searching.

Please do not post a song unless you have a reference to just WHY you are posting it.

I'll start with this cut by AJ Croce, the son of dearly missed Jim Croce.
It has a relevance to me because the one I love, Lori, has heard these words from me so many times before. I'm leaving the bar, honey. I'll be home soon.
Yes, I love you. Yes, I promise, I'm on my way.
AJ.....She's waiting for me.
This song is quite about our relationship.

And this one.........
For all my detractors over the years.
I have had me some.......LOL.
OH yeah, the kittyman has some who have lost their patience with him and have called him....let's say, something less than nice things.

So, I'll, just say this......as Charlie Daniels made it quite clear,,,,
You ain't gonna change my life.
My Life.

Or this one, which has a special connection to me because of the suicide of my dear lost brother Michael so many years ago........Gawd, I have not even posted his name for so many years now....

I chased him down a bridge, only to see him jump.
'Now I understand what you tried to say to me......'

Don McLean....Vincent.

You see, songs......music.....have always had a special connection to me because I never had the gift. When somebody sings about life, grief, happiness or sadness, I listen very closely because I know most times they are trying to share something with me in a way that I never was able to but always wished I could.

And when I link Traveling Man............it's because I once was.

And SRV's cut Life by the drop.
For so many reasons.
First of all, because I was at his very last performance at Alpine Valley.
But perhaps most importantly, I recognize his triumph over alcohol and drugs shortly before he left us. This song means something special to me and most other addicts because he was able to overcome something most of us have yet to master.

'Second Hand Lions' because it is something most everybody should watch, and it qualifies because I certainly am one.

YOU watch now............if you have not already.

Meowrrrrrrrr. (kitty in the cornfield)..you will get it if you watch.

This single line in the movie says it all about me.

'Son, in his life, he had more spirit than twenty men.'

And, so it was. So I was. I have the spirit still. You do not know what I left behind to be.......here.........with you.

And I have more years left. A few more. I think. Good Lord willing, I shall be giving you grief for many more.

I suspect, like the lion in the cornfield, I won't be that much trouble to 'yall. Just watch yer back when you step between the rows, tho.
I might just growl at ya.

And you think I tell tall tales. This is one of the grandest ones ever. And, kids, it turns out to be true.
Tell that to your younguns when they ask who the kittyman was.

My tales are true, too.

And one day, when your kids ask you 'Did that crazy kittyman really live.......'
You can tell them.....
Yeah, he really lived.
For a few moments, Yeah, I really did.

Meows.

There are two versions of this song that I wish to share with you.
Oooooops, I guess that's three.
Both are significant because the writer, John Prine, is in my mind more significant to the everyman than John Dylan ever became.

Dylan had his ideals and all......snuck my another of true loves at the time, Baez, out from under my feet. She eventually wised up to him as well.

Anyway, Prine always forever and still does.....connect with the boots in the cowpasture everyday, butt scratching, where my horse done gone, American cowboy.

But, Prine wrote another gem one day.........
The album version......
The live version......
The cover version......LOL. OH, gawd, these two are just hopelessly in love.

Norah Jones.......
Because I consider her to be about the most beautiful woman on the planet earth as of this writing.
Come away with me.....

I'm just an ice cube waiting to melt in this gurl's arms.
OH, please, just turn me on.

And kids, I have not stories to tell about his one.
She is far too young for me.
But, she twists my heart as much as the other two did.
As much as the original did.
Love me Tender......

She carries some most wonderful sidemen with her.
Witness this cut.
She does NOT play the guitar licks.......so far as I have determined.
Will you? Doubt it.

And she simply slays me with the truths told to myself in this song.......
Change the gender when necessary.
Heart of Mine......oh, please be still, and don't tell me the truth, Heart of Mine.
Only trouble is if you let her in, heart of mine.

Last entry in this CAT-egory.

I forgot that her father was Ravi Shankar.......And am still a bit mystified about how this filtered down from father to daughter.....but still, there must have been some connection when she can play
Summertime like this.....Dunno.

ROFLMAO.........
This is what I looking for.
The old Bette Midler rave up, in full fish tails.

Boogie like you fished 'em.

How those gurlz did not trip and fall flat on their faces, I'll never know.

Christina aguilera took a whack at them too........
Her version of Candyman........rocks.

I have an x-rated version in my vaults.
She did about a dozen takes on this one.
OK, thirteen.
This is kinda a mix of a few versions.

Is some she flashed a little more that PG.

As to the 'sisters'......
If memory serves, Patty was always called the 'plain looking' sister, the ugly duckling as she were.
Uh, I would have taken her just as soon as the other two. Her voice was just as necessary to the trio as the others.
No debate about who was better looking than the others. All I knew was what hit the ol' RCA mike. And hit it, they did.t

A classic they did was Rum and Coca Cola.....Listen to the lyrics, it was rather tamed down by the time it hit the streets. The lines about 'making love in hot sun then cool off' were not the same when this was first recorded.

And, if memory serves, there was some discussion about just what 'Tico Tico' meant.
BTW, a very wondderful recording of same.
Were there not some very stict things about mixed race relations going on at the time? Could be wrong, but if I recall, something about American and anything south of the border was not looked upon favorably.

Tico, Tico.

Last post tonight, K?

Those of your who understand will appreciate it for what it is.
One of a very few Andrews cuts that I have never seen before.
I suspect many of you have not either, for the same reasons it has eluded me.
Just enjoy, and I catch you in the morenign for further comments, if any.

Was this the first concert?

Nothing would be finer that to be her...........
Oh, that was a different song.
And as I remember, she wuz not wearing a bustle.

I go now........oh, I almost forgot you were there.
You may go now.

And don't forget.
I have two guns, once for each of you.

So don't go off half-cocked.
Then we can be friends again.
