Same driver limitation for prev released ATi MB builds too AFAIK.
If someone can find old/different enough build that will work OK with these drivers please let me know.

I have been running r390 under all recent ATI drivers up to and including 13.1 but today I went back to 12.8 so I could install r1761.

You might need to use the Catalyst Uninstall Utility to fully remove the driver and APP runtime, my experience is that the Catalyst Installer when uninstalling was leaving it's files behind in System32 and SysWOW64 directories,
after i reported it to AMD the Utility appeared, just waiting for XP, Vista and Win 8 support.

Use CLinfo or GPUCapsViewer to see if the newer APP runtime is still installed, or whether the older APP runtime has been installed.

What's the lowest generation ATI card that can use MB7_win_x86_SSE_OpenCL_ATi_r1761.exe? Can my HD 4670 r430 use it, or is it still restricted to APs only? I'm using the AMD 13.1 Legacy driver containing AMD-APP 937.2, is that a 'bad' number for any of these Apps?

Check to what Catalyst it corresponds. You need Catalyst 11.7 or better but not higher than 12.8.

If you saw incompatibility with ATi MB before than this build probably will not work too, but worth to try.

Way to go AMD. Nothing like mixing it up a little. First, lets look at what they call;
Version - 13.1 - Operating System(s) Windows Vista - 32-Bit Edition; Windows 7 - 32-Bit Edition; Windows 8 - 32-Bit Edition, AMD Catalyst™ Driver for AMD Radeon™ HD 4000, HD 3000 and HD 2000 Series:

Catalyst Control Center 2012.1116.1514.27190

Now we look at;
Version - 13.1 - Operating System(s) 32 bit version of Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8:
Display Driver ver. 9.012
OpenCL(tm) Driver ver. 10.0.1084.4
Catalyst Control Center ver. 2012.1219.1520.27485

Nice.

Best I can figure, the first 13.1 is really something like 12.6 with AMD display driver version 8.98. I'm not sure about the OpenCL Driver version, but, it's probably close.

Well after all that excitement I've gone back to r390 because it doesn't blow up the driver on shorties. It did one normal unit, somewhat slower than normal, seemingly successfully (won't know until my wingman reports) but the next unit it tried, a shortie, crashed the driver which stalled out the process for several hours until I noticed that none of the ATI units had been uploaded after the first one.

Ce la vie.

Configuration
Version 13.1 64-bit Windows 7 driver.
HD 6550D, integrated into an A8-3820.

Me too. I downgraded the driver to 12.8 so MB r1761 worked without restarts for a few wu's...just slower than r390 under 13.1. Funny because the GPU utilization was higher, around 90-95%. Maybe the APP SDK 2.8 really does give the OpenCL speed boost AMD claims. Anyway I've gone back to r390 & CCC 13.1.

AP r1761 is working so far with 13.1 so I'll keep it for a while to see if it is at least as fast as the r1363 it replaces.

System: HD 6670, Win7 64, Catalyst 13.1

There seems to be a trend where MB r1761 is not working for some people, myself included. In contrast, both ATI and NV AstroPulse r1761 appear to be fine for my machines.

In addition to the two failures I already reported, it looks like MB r1761 doesn't work for my AMD E-450 either - for the WU it was running on, progress remained stuck at 18.571%. After doing a proper purge of the Catalyst drivers (including AMDs own uninstall utility), I re-installed Catalyst 12.8, purged the bin/wisdom files and suffered repeated driver crashes upon attempt to run MB r1761 again. In contrast to the C-50, however, I had to upgrade to Catalyst 13.1 (leaving the cached bin/wisdom files alone, of course) before MB r426 would run again.

So this means 3 failures to run MB r1761 out of my 3 hosts that have been able to get work for it so far. Doesn't look good for the MB application at the moment. ): (I realise it's difficult to test for everyone's configuration, of course.)

As I said before, AP r1761 is running well, so at least I don't have to worry about that.

I have updated my rig with r1761. It is now running two units right now on a GTX480 and my observations are:
1. The GPU load is all over the place ranging from 15 - 95%
2. The crunching time seems to have doubled from an average of 65 minutes for r1363

Both have 1 CPU core allocated to it.


Edit: The completion time for the above WU was 2 hours 17 minutes.

r390 can't be re-released.If you have r390 and it works better/faster - use it. For new users there is no alternative for now.

That's what I was going to suggest: high blanking percentages would account for the low GPU usage.

Well, makes sense that there hasn't been many changes in AP applications - explains why I haven' had any issues with them.

If you use both AP and MB r1761 please redownload pack for MB (rev 1760) and install it instead. There is incompatibility between FFT plans for AP and MB at the same (32k) FFT size.

The problem is that AP r1761 and MB r1761 produce different fft plans with the same file name, normally that hasn't been a problem since AP and MB revisions have been far apart,
I normally run AP apps first, and haven't seen a problem, this time i ran the r1761 ATI MB app first, and when the r1761 ATI AP app ran all my ATI AP Wu's overflowed,

Oh... that's interesting. Because I haven't had problems with AP, only MB. But it can't hurt to give it a try.
