Binaries are available here:
http://lunatics.kwsn.net/12-gpu-crunching/open-beta-for-intel-opencl-ap-application.0.html

could someone convert this file to zip format for me. pm me if you are willing

A Goodsearch for "online archive converter" without the quotes turned up several sites on the first page of hits which provide conversion between 7zip and zip. I Have not used any, so cannot comment on safety or reliability.

Just dropping in a sideways reminder, as this situation crops up from time to time in my developments as well: beta/alpha are usually not presented in a form for wide circulation, simply because they are either not intended as such, or developers haven't gotten around to release packaging (depending on the development stage).

I appreciate in this case the user is requesting a third party for assistance, though please bear in mind GPL carries obligations with redistribution.

Many arguments exist for or against using better compression (7-zip, LZMA). For one small example, most of us volunteers use server space & bandwidth provided by generous benefactors, and minimising impact on their services is absolute priority. Also final release forms are usually provided in some sortof installer or other form with advanced compression internally, making beta form largely irrelevant. Under these circumstances, before committing to testing, I'd look closely at personal priorities against those of developers, which usually at beta stage means more about spotting & reporting functional issues than refining a presentation package.

which is why i asked if someone testing out there would be willing to convert the 7zip format file to standard zip format. if someone does then my idle hd4000 will be put to work otherwise it will sit idle. either way no skin off my back.

LZMA is a trusted compression algorithm with a respectable academic pedigree.

You may be too young to remember it, but ZIP is not a 'standard'. I still have my original floppy disk for my licensed shareware copy of WinZip v6.0a, copyright 1991-1995 Nico Mak Computing, compatible with Windows 95, Windows 3.1 and Windows NT. None of those versions of Windows had compression built in.

Microsoft recognised a good thing when they saw it, and 'borrowed' it for later versions. The community also recognise good things, and have moved on to a better thing (higher compressions ratios, leading to a lower bandwidth requirement): hopefully Microsoft will follow suit eventually, but they haven't got there yet.

It's strange: to start with, operating systems were very sparse, and people looked everywhere for applications to make their lives easier. Then, operating systems got much, much bigger (some would say bloated), and those useful applications were distributed with them. Then, people started getting lean, mean operating systems again - on smart phones. And a new lease of life was given to the add-ons market, except now they've shrunk, and are simply called 'apps'.

Anyone who has ever downloaded an app to their smart phone should be happy to upgrade Windows with 7-zip.

yes I remember. I still have a copy of my pre-windows dos only pkzip. and yes i know windows borrowed it. and i also could care less the pedigree of LZMA or for that matter the pedigree of any other compression program. like i stated and its my opninion you dont have to like it or even agree with it. windows does have a built in zip extractor so i do not have to install another extractor and in doing so clutter up the system with duplicate programs. if in the future windows adds native support for 7zip or another compression format then great. if not then oh well, i'll wait for developers to release stuff in a self extractor or ask for help from someone who is willing to do a conversion, or like i said not use the program

Just thought I'd leave this here:

Compression Performance: 7-Zip, MagicRAR, WinRAR, WinZip

Just because Windows can do something, that doesn't automatically make it a good idea. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and install something better. Revo Uninstaller would be another fine example of such a case.

That reminds me of another issue related to compression: encryption.

From that Tom's hardware review:

7z is based on an open architecture with optional 256-bit AES encryption ...
Moreover, it supports WinZip AES encryption, making it possible to create
ZIP archives with 256-bit AES encryption.

I'm increasingly being asked to use 256-bit AES encryption, for example when communicating personal details to my local authority's Social Services department. When Tom's says that 7-Zip supports WinZip AES encryption, it means exactly that - the separate (and paid for) WinZip program. The basic ZIP tool in Windows 7 and before can't handle AES.

Off-topic for the original discussion of software transport, I know, but something to be aware of anyway.

If in the future there is a need, and i don't consider 1 program a need, I find that more and more developers are going to a paticular format for compression for the programs and applications that I use then i will break down and purchase that compression program. BTW I do own revo uninstaller

well, try to add CPU section for AP just with very same app.
Then both BONC client and BOINC server will think it's CPU app....
Maybe you will need some re-schedule then to load CPU with other work.
SETI@home server doesn't know Intel GPU still...

Okay, I changed my app_info.xml to this, and it worked. The blue lines are the new part I asked for and received tasks. One task is running now on the Intel GPU, while tasks from other projects are running on the CPU threads. I have to hit the road for a few hours. I will report back later to say how it is going.

Completed 2 of 2, both pending wingmen for validation.

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=6937166

Run time is 10,300 seconds. I have no idea about the load on the GPU with only one task. Does anyone know of a tool like afterburner, that will see and report on intel HD graphics?

The latest SIV Beta should now show GPU load:

Added the GPU % Load plots for Intel Core i3/i5/i7 HD Graphics Controllers and similar for Windows 7.

On the home screen, when I hover over the GPU load, the pop-up shows 0%. When I look at machine->GPU info, it also shows 0%. I also looked at Status->GPU status, but there is no "load" there.

Maybe I am looking at the wrong thing? or in the wrong place?

yes, Intel GPU has only few CUs so single AP with default settigns should provide quite good load on GPU. running 2 at once (especially if heavy blanking occurs) could be good still but not required.
