They just don't sometimes understand the meaning of sleep.

That is an understatement!
The kitties think we should get up at 4:30 AM on weekends!
There is no off button to the kitty alarm clocks!
I think they all went on the Internet, and saw the clips of Simons cat.

I don't know what to do about the kitty-bully problem, but I think I know why Mia doesn't like you, Steve. To a cat, you probably smell like a snake!!!

But I took a shower last year..... :D

Steve

Actually she doesn't seem to be afraid of the snakes. Just me, and I have given her no reason to be afraid of me.

I know this.......after many, many years of kitty care.
This is just my own experience.

I have 4 kitties. Squirrel, Tigger II, Bandit and Purrball.
There was a time when t2 and little Bandit, who was the little one of the litter,
were very shy.

I was not as sharp on these thingys when I first became a cat care professional.

They were both just......the timid and shy ones.

It is only in the last few months that I coached them out of their shells.........
After many years and tears. TII, after her eye infection, is now just pounding me for attention with her sweet nose. She not only asks for attention now, she demands it.....with authority.

Gawd, I do luv my kitties.

Gawd, I do luv my kitties.

That is so evident Mark :-) But cats unlike dogs can be a bit territorial. Some will get on with each other, some won't.

Kitties can be that way too.
Purrball is quite neurotic, and has a hissy fit whenever the other kitties invade her territory. She just goes wild.
When I lay me down to sleep, she lays down and puts her head upon my arm.
Then she is happy kitty.

Interesting place for discussing cats,I've had my little girl for about 7 1/2 years, ever since I took her from some drug addicts and I could almost close my hand around her.Since she wasn't raised with other cats or a mother she thinks I'm a cat or shes human, haven't figured that one out yet.She was raised in a motorhome for around 4yrs,used to ride in my van with my till I junked it and even rode in a carrier on a motorcycle with me when my wife was dying from cancer. She wants to be where ever I am,if I'm working on my bike she sits on it and supervises,if I'm out with my telescopes she will sit on my shoulder with her claws dug into my leather jacket and let me know when its to cold to stay outside. She does not like other animals,I learned the hard way not to touch her when there's a cat around, sharp claws. She chases possums, squirrels and dogs out of the yard. She sleeps by my side until I wake up,or unless she wants breakfast early, she also makes a good guard cat,I can tell if someones around by watching her.Anyway just thought it was an interesting subject here.

Tootsie, the cat of my sister in law, also has a past with drug addicts and is very traumatized but she's really starting to trust me, so I've noticed. Happy, my cat, on the other hand, always had a free life, in nature and is totally different. Cats so much have a character of their own...

It says "for no apparent reason" but the reason is apparent for many of them.

Anybody know any sure-fire ways to fatten up a kitty?

Our little Zsa Zsa is not a food driven kitty. She was ill a couple of months ago and she lost some weight. She is better now and she has gained back some weight, but she is still a skinny, skinny cat. We have tried the following:

1. Supplemental meals of high calorie kitten food (even though she is an adult cat)

2. Locking her siblings out of a room when she is eating so that they don't push her away from the bowl and she can take her time eating

3. Re-presenting food offerings up to three times if she turns up her snotty little cat nose

4. Special high calorie wet food purchased from our vet

5. Supplemental all-meat baby food purees (Gerber's Stage 2 chicken, ham & turkey flavors)

6. Extra kitty treats whenever possible

We have had some success in putting her lost weight back on her, but progress has been slow and her weight gain appears to have plateaued lately.

Have we missed anything obvious?

Does anyone have any good tricks that we haven't tried?

Zsa Zsa's energy levels and behavior are normal, so we have no reason to assume she is still ill. (Right now she is chasing Eva up and down the stairs, burning calories she can ill afford to spare!!!) Zsa Zsa's teeth look ok and our vet has not voiced any concerns in that area. Every time I pet that cat, all I feel are bones!

Maybe you can try this for Zsa Zsa?

NutriCal is an excellent additive.

You may want to try a little human baby food, such as chicken or lamb.

Sardines.

Hope one of the above helps.

Good luck with Zsa Zsa! :-)
