I've dropped GPU work because of various issues and wondered if SETI now only does combined CPU/GPU work or can us 'old-fashioned' people still contribute?

Sorry I did search for answers and couldn't find any and BOINC website is hopeless at delineating between CPU and GPU projects.

Yes absolutely!

Some of us (like me) are running Seti on servers or similar, which don't have GPUs that can be used to compute.

I was looking for where the option is but cannot find it... If I recall correctly, when you attach a new project (seti) it asks you if you want to use your GPU as well, and you just disable that option.

Someone else may be able to be more specific.

Click 'Account' below then on that page Seti@home preferences and you can turn it off there. My question is still valid as several posts dotted around the message boards state since turning off GPU settings they haven't received any work at all.

Ah, found it.

Here on the website:
Navigate to "Account"
"Preferences for this project"- Click "Seti@home preferences"
Scroll down and click "edit Seti@home preferences"
Uncheck "use ATI GPU" and "use Nvidia GPU"

(If you don't have a usable GPU you probably don't even need to bother with these steps above, as you won't be sent GPU work :-))

Keep in mind in the future if you add a second machine or new first machine and want to use GPU, you will need to adjust your project settings accordingly. We will gladly explain that if needed in the future.

Someone else may be able to explain more. The Number Crunching folks know all about those details, let's hope they see your post.

Good luck sir.

Thanks, appreciate your help. I tried this before and for weeks got no work and was hoping to get a definitive answer from a SETI person.

Well I partially answered my own question, one solitary work unit just downloaded. The question is will there be more to make it worth while?

Yea there are lots of little things that could be going on. Some possibilities come to mind.

Work scheduling
"Keep enough work to keep busy for:"
People have to set this option in strange ways sometimes to get work.
(4 (days) and .01 (additional) IIRC)

Also maybe run Boinc for a little while with Seti connected as a project, and then check "event log" in the "advanced" menu of Boincmgr, that could give some hints.

That's true. At the moment I have 1 day and nothing for the additional.

There is no such thing here as "combined CPU/GPU work" (save one special case of 'Hybrid optimized app' for old ATI GPUs, there is no standard app that can run SETI task simultaneously on CPU+GPU)

The tasks are the same, they are labeled 'for CPU' or 'for GPU' the moment they are sent to you.
The same task that is sent to you as 'CPU task' may/will be sent to somebody else as 'GPU task'
