I wonder why they made the cobblestones so cheap. Did they think to dazzle us with big numbers? It took 5 years of crunching for me to get to 35000 classic SETI work units. Now, in less than 2 months I have 50000 BOINC units. Couldn't they have come up with some sort of parity?

Congrats on 50K!

They did inflate the cobblestones to dazzle us with big numbers, by a factor of 100. A seti workunit should be worth 0.3 or so cobblestones.

Congratulation! 50.000 within 2 month, not bad…
Happy crunching!

Perfessor,

How come your not crunching bigger numbers?
Is the other projects slowing results down for SETI?

Not a dig, Just curious if something is wrong or do they they
crunch part time?

I think the basic idea is to provide some unit of measure that fits with moderately intense projects like SETI, very intense projects like CPDN, and sometimes less-intense projects like LHC.

Perfessor

Is that classic SETI of BOINC Cobblestones?

I'm not complaining. Just getting input.

One usefull feature of cobblestones is...

If you divide the number of credits granted to a project for a day by 100 thousand, you get the number of Teraflops per second that project is crunching. (Teraflops by Whetstone standard).

Example: at 9:00 AM 12/3/04, boincstats.com claims Seti@home project had 6,060,544 credits granted during the previous 24 hours.
This would mean the combined machines were performing at an average speed of 60.605 Teraflops/Sec to achieve this number.

50,000 credits (cobblestones) would translate as "...enough computing power to equal the performance of 500 days output of one theoretical cobblestone machine."

"Cobblestone" machine is granted 100 credits in a day of 24 hour operation, and returns score of 1000 Whetstone FP, and 1000 Dhrystone INT benchmark.

Sorry guys, forgot about this thread.

I'm running both classic Seti and Seti Boinc splitting the work between the 2 on a single processor. I'll keep running Classic Seti till they shut it down. Going for my 7500 badge there (6023 right now).
