Anyone seen this before? Yeah, AVG doesn't like Seti it seems, someone ought to tell them that the programs that are used for number crunching under Boinc aren't a threat, yet are viewed as such by their AVG program. I run Avast and I excluded the folders where the wu's are at, problem solved. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's

I don't know what AV software you're using, but I have exempted all folders connected with BOINC to be excluded from any kind of scanning (Projects, Slots, & Symbols). My AV software is the Internet Security Suite from Total Defender, which was spun off from Computer Associates, and only had one problem with using their software for the last 40+ years whether it be a mainframe or PC. Myself I use Avira, it has never flagged any of my Boinc projects. Find it to be pretty effective. I don't exclude anything from getting scanned. I fix enough peoples computers (as that is what I do for a living) that I will not use or recomend to anyone NAV/AVG/Mcafee, they slow down machines too much, and not as affective as they should be anyways. (Oh and as those are the big three of AV, are also targeted my malware writers as specific targets to disable in a machine.) Another one that seems to be doing prettty good is Kaspersky. I've never had that problem myself with AVG and I've been using it for many years now. Never had any problem like that being as there is no need to run any Windows 'anti-virus' here. All works fine as designed after very many years! (OK, so this is running on a non-Microsoft system! ;-) ) More seriously: All 'anti-virus' products run the risk of "false positives" and of wreaking 'collateral damage'. The random s@h data that boinc processes is just bound to trip up any anti-virus at some time or other. Just as with giving enough time to a team of monkeys to randomly type out the works of Shakespeare, given enough WU data, you will get something that is recognized as a Windows virus... If/when we find some s@h data that is NOT random... Some years ago, I was using Antivir as my primary AV program. After an update that program decided to quarantine my Boinc installation. This was fixed, but after some time it decided to do it again. This made me switch to AVG, which I used for a long time with few problems. But then MS made Security Essentials, I uninstalled AVG, installed MSE, and havent looked back. ID: 1327962 · |

Some years ago, I was using Antivir as my primary AV program. MSE is IMHO the best running AV for Windows, on my few Windows installations I run MSE and have for years now. Never a problem, but I also use malware-bytes occasionally to find the little web bits sometimes left behind my MSE. #resist ID: 1327964 · |

MSE is IMHO the best running AV for Windows... Oh dear no... See: Microsoft bombs another security test ... fails Microsoft Security Essentials -- for the second time in a row... Microsoft Security Essentials loses AV-TEST certification Microsoft Security Essentials, Redmond’s free antivirus tool for home users and business with up to ten PCs, can detect just 64 per cent of zero-day threats... Regardless, running an "anti-virus" package is never a complete solution. It's a bit like leaving open a stable door tempting the horses to bolt just so a tame cowboy can show off whether or not the horse can be lassoed back in... That is also expensively hard work to run! Far far better is to run any of the other OSes that do not need any "AV" by design. As far as I'm aware, Microsoft Windows is the ONLY OS to so extensively support malware in the way that it does...
