Your computers are hidden, not very helpful when you're asking for help, so i'm guessing that you're running the 295.xx or 296.xx drivers with the sleeping monitor bug, the solutions for that are:

NVidia driver problems which cause computation errors

But that is probably not the whole problem, being that you're running a GT640 and the drivers for it only start at 301.42

Another possibility, if you're running a Professional version of Windows: are you using Windows Remote Desktop to access it from another computer? That automatically kills GPU processing until you go back and use that computer in person.

Bingo, I am on nVidia 296.33

Let me update the driver first.

After upgrading the nVIDIA driver to 310.90. This time the CUDA can be found. But I got another error. I have only one drive (c:), so I do not know where is the d:\xxxx file located. :(

CUFFT error in file 'd:/Projects/SETI/seti_boinc/client/cuda/cudaAcc_fft.cu' in line 62.

It's the science application that reports this line, it's built into the science application that this was where the file was on the system that was used to build the application. It's not a file that should be in that directory on your system.

Thanks for the info.

But it is not working :(

Guess I will need to wait until either Seti or nVidia fix the bug.

Thanks for the info.

But it is not working :(

So you did 2) c) Set an environment variable, as shown below:
CUDA_GRID_SIZE_COMPAT = 1

... and "it is not working"??

It doesn't work. Must I restart the computer? I haven't restart it, and I can't really restart it for now.

I have restarted the computer.

Added the environment variable.

Can get CUDA work unit. But it only runs for 11 seconds, and says computation error.

Regardless of whether the screen in on or off.

What did you do first? you said you restarted the computer and added the enviromental varible, did you restart the computer after adding the varible or before?

I have restarted the computer.

Added the environment variable.

I don't think a reboot is needed.
Probably the environment variable is not set correctly (e.g. name is wrong).

in Command Prompt type:
set

... and check that you see exactly this line (among others as COMPUTERNAME=, ComSpec=, Path=)
CUDA_GRID_SIZE_COMPAT=1

(you may copy the line to post here for others to check)

No reboot needed, and it survives a reboot - or at least that is so if you follow the instructions in the pinned thread about Nvida problems

Yes, I can see that variable when I issue SET in command prompt. And it is spell correctly.

Below is the error for CUDE tasks.

Then post a picture of your variable then, if you can spell Cuda wrong, you're quite capable of spelling something else wrong.

Did you copy/paste CUDA_GRID_SIZE_COMPAT when you created the variable or did you type it?

Can you see the errors in these lines:
CUDA_CRID_SIZE_COMPAT
CUDA_GRID_SIZE_COMBAT
CUDA_GRlD_SIZE_COMPAT
CUDA_GRID_SIZE_COMPAT=l

You can copy from the Command Prompt by Menu -> Edit -> Mark (Alt+Space E Enter), e.g.:
CLASSPATH=.;D:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\ext\QTJava.zip
CLIENTNAME=Console
CommonProgramFiles=D:\Program Files\Common Files
ComSpec=D:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe
DEFAULT_CA_NR=CA18
FP_NO_HOST_CHECK=NO
HOMEDRIVE=D:
