I'm perfectly fine with something many people would find disgusting.

The walls of the house I live in are pretty brittle, so the ants from the garden found a way into my apartment, sniffing out my bottle of Jägermeister (which is high-octane ant fuel).

Now I cook water with honey for them and feed them with little crabs. That is, I put a crab on a piece of paper tissue, and not much later dozens of ants are all over it, ripping it into pieces and carrying crumbs of it away. (They are little predators!)

I hope my landlord won't find out ...

- Hmm, what makes me think ... What if we really make contact with extraterrestrials one day, and they have some extremely weird (from our point of view) eating habits, or, ahm, sexual preferences? Will it be "Yayks" and "Gack" and "I just had dinner" then?

Someone wrote a Star Trek novel once in which most of the main characters were taken prisoner by aliens of a race whose very bodies caused violent physical revulsion in humans. By the end of the book, the crew had gotten used to them.

I think you are referring to the Furies, beings from our distant path who looked like demons of our worst fears. It was a set of four books by 4 authors that spanned the four star treks, TOS, star trek NG, deep space nine, and voyager.

Diane Carey wrote the first called invasion first strike. Dean wesley and Kristan kathyryn Rusch wrote the second, L.A. Graf wrote the third and DAFYDD ab HUGH wrote the last book.

Was a very good read on all of them.

This book was years ago, before they started planning series of books and mixing the different crews and even adding their own book-only characters. It's possible they did three sequels to an original that was never intended to have them, but I don't think so. In this one, it turned out the aliens were juveniles of their race and had unusual customs about their names. Chekov named one of them Orange Juice and Wodka. Spock and Sulu were still on Enterprise, following the alien ship across space.

Well, whatever alien food preferences look like, they cannot be as disgusting as American sweets. I mean, I have a thing for sweets myself - but peanut butter / jam sandwiches for breakfast?! Ahrrp.

More usually for lunch, but breakfast works too.

Never had that with peanut butter. Not sure I want to try it.

De gustibus non disputandum est, as Dr. Asimov used to say. There's no arguing with taste.

Toasted wheat bread, peanut butter on one slice, regular butter on the other, liverwurst, cheddar, turkey, mozzarella, ham, havarti, pastrami, swiss, bologna in between.

edit: and a tall glass of chocolate milk, or a chocolate shake, to wash it down...

Not a fan of Swiss or bologna, but I'd give that whole combination a try once. But no liverwurst!
