Trying to connect with the BOINC software for SETI work package I find that the URL suppied by you folks doesn't seem to work (after 6 tries, reinstalling the software twice). After checking I find that the servers are up too. I have gone back to the classic version as that one works. Any ideas? I use XP, SP2, 20gig free on hard drive and 750 meg RAM free.

As it looks, your PC have not connected to the server right now. Be sure you are using
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu
without spaces before and behind it.

Did you look in the message tab to see what are the messages ?

Very probably, this is a question of Firewall and/or Proxy configuration.

Read the News at the homepage
Have a look at the Technical News
Look if your question is not answered at the Boinc Wiki

Thanks for the reply!

I entered the URL correctly, the messages said that there was no such URL, and the firewall excepted the program's access to the web withou a problem. I did not have the "classic version" on line (or running in the background either), but as I use Netzero HS as my ISP provider, perhaps there's a conflict there with the "high speed" version of Netzero. Any more thoughts?

You have to make certain that you have allowed the XP SP2 firewall to let BOINC out of your machine.

Thanks John for the reply, but I don't use the XP (ineffective) firewall, but ZoneAlarm ... and I gave the proram permission as it was requested. Any other ideas?

This is most likely the problem. Web acceleraters usually work by compressing the data before sending it to your computer. If you can find a way to set it not to compress comunications for BOINC try that.
