Probably a clever thing to do but it's so nice to stay in contact with friends from the past and the present...

Message 1369053 - Posted: 17 May 2013, 18:58:43 UTC - in response to Message 1369040.

As I sit here, someone over at the School District office could be looking to see what I'm looking at. As soon as I click Post, they can know what I sent.

I think so. Someone got fired at work because she called in sick to go to Paris. In the meanwhile she posted pics of her trip to Paris on Fb. They must have seen it. I'm always very careful, especially with Fb!

That's just stupid on her part, and not quite what I meant. I could, theoretically, get fired just for using the District's internet connection for something other than work. (I actually did get in trouble for something I posted here about a year ago. Not *just* because I posted it, but because I posted it from work while I should have been working. They have no say over what I post from home unless I slander the District (or one of its employees over something related to work) or disclose confidential information.)

Mark, I doubt the government specifically watches you, but the NSA or someone almost certainly scans the zillions of messages each day for hot words and if it detects enough from one source it could trigger a closer look. However, unless you're posting in Politics that you admire Tim McVeigh and wish someone would blow up another building, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I prefer private forums and emails.

But of course you can't reconnect with friends and family you have lost contact with via emails and forums.

Whilst I don't use facebook much, without it I would not have reconnected with several long lost friends and my sister(who had moved to the US)

It defiantly has its place but it is not for everyone.

As a celebration of Celt's success with his medical treatments, I'd like to propose we assign Celt as winner of "TLPTPW #186 - Is it Summer yet?".

He has been through hell and this forum helped him make it through

Having been given a clean bill of health by his doctor, Ian Celt-Tooth is certainly a winner.

At the start of TLPTPW #186 I called a target range of 500-600, and picked a number near the middle of that range. We are just over half way to the range, and not quite half way to the target number.

We have a motion on the floor - do I hear a second?

I'm off to dinner and a bit of music - be back in a couple hours.

I have no objections but it will create a precedent, which might be difficult to refuse in the future e.g. We did it for X, why cant we do it for Y? I appreciate the sentiment being expressed here, but is it a wise one? Perhaps a Mod Squad decision on it .....

As the long lost finder of rules. I say that those of you who play the game can change or modify the rules as you see fit. ( After the proper discussion of course ) But!! Id ask Celt how he feels about it.

Those thoughts also occurred to me. Were we considerably closer to the target, and/or had I not given a target range at the onset, it would have been easy to have Ian "hit the target". But Ian also takes great joy in playing the game, so I am more inclined to let the game run to completion, and see if perhaps Ian wins without any adjustment to the target number....

Okidoki, it's just that when you get these semi transparent overlays you wonder.
