What is that thing in the Beets pic anyway?!

I'll tell you when I declare the winner. To say now might influence the caption writers.

Fair enough :)

Why does the count to thread say 19 a?

Have a look at the early posts, all possible copyright pictures were removed and the thread restarted with an "a".

We have had some questions on the rules here that havent followed the thread in some time now.

So I went back to the 169 page of this thread and worked my way forward. This is the first complete list I have found. There may be earlier ones but Its hard scroling thru 1000's of posts.

here is what I found at page #50 TLPTPW# 93 Message # 921488 dated 26 July 2009.

The Last Person To Post Thread, general rules:
1. Winner of the last thread starts the new one.
2. Chooses a number to be the post declared the next winner and records it somehow. (yellow sticky, etc.)
3. Everyone has fun posting while the target number of posts is reached.
4. When the target is reached, rinse and repeat.

Supplemental rules:
1. Double posting (the same poster posting two or more posts in succession) is frowned upon.
2. Posting of larger pics is discouraged (Modem users do still exists, and these threads can get quite long.)
3. The rest of the post rules listed to the left of your post box are all enforced.

I found one referance to double posting at page #53 message#885632 dated 15 April 2009 in TLPTPW#83- Hey, I thought if you post twice in a row you loose?

FYI the first game I came across was from page#120 dated 23 July, 2006.

It has also been mostly agreed that we voluntarily keep the number below 500. This shortens the load time and avoids it dragging on for too long and getting boring. We should also say obviously copyrighted photoes will be removed.

In my search for thr rules I also came across hidden copyrighted cartoons from July 2006 on page #124. It just wasnt one or two posts hidden it was entire threads being hidden. So it seems like an ongoing issue from time to time.

Also Chris you were the first to start a version of a pun thread.

I would say if anyone wants to see how wild the boards were back in the early days to go back to page 169 wich is in 2006 and work your way forward. I have to warn you though that a lot of threads are hidden and most have no title, they are marked closed . You have no idea what they are untill you go in.

But you will see a lot of the old posters are still posting.

As to those rules, it seems over time as if we have allowed two posts in a row by the same poster if there has been in outage in the interim. I'm making the suggestion that two posts in a row isn't reason for moderator action but an instruction to the person with the secret number that the second post in a row can't be the winning post.

I'd also like to know if anyone objects to a change in #2 to also allow a "time of last post" to be chosen instead of a number. For some they can have limited hours to access the boards and being able to be in a window they can be online to declare a winner may be helpful. I think this has been done ad hoc once or twice.

As to the 500 number, that is fine for now. But back in the past there were times that 500 might have been two days. I'm thinking the suggestion should be pick a number based on recent activity to the thread, say about two weeks or so in the future.

You make excellent points Gary. Lets say nobody makes a post for 7 hours I can see no reason why the same poster should not be able to post twice in a row.

When I first started on the boards in late 09 some games were well over 1500 posts.

I did a few 500 games and I know Angela did a timed one.

The rules I posted might well be outdated. I stopped looking at page 48 game#98. I started at 169 and worked back till I found them. 5 hours worth of looking so I decided I was done.

So this is the place for you players to either modify the rules I posted or take them as is. But they should be posted so anyone can play. Other wise dont hit the redx to complain if you have not posted any rules.

I could even see a hybrid of that idea. The winner will be the Nth post that is made after 00:00:01 UTC on date xx/yy. Or something like that.

[edit]
And of course, the person who started it keeps N and xx/yy secret just as she/he now keeps the number secret.

I have another suggestion:

Put the rules of all the Cafe games in one post and make it sticky so newcomers can find it. Lock it, referring comments to this discussion thread. If we agree to alter the rules of a game, a mod can change the rules post.

Problem. Rules differ for different Threads.
Let's start with the easy one. The Last Person to post and wins.
No Violation of the rules and no two posts in a row. That shouldn't be to hard.

As we are just discussing a possible sticky thread for rules, Even if we have one Id still keep my rules on the first post of a new Puns O Fun thread.
But here is how I would make a sticky thread for rules.

sticky thread title- Rules for cafe games.

These are the rules for the various games in the cafe.

TLPTPW- rules as follows.

Puns O Fun- rules as follows.

Anyone can make a pun at any time. ETC. ETC.

Word linked game rules as follows.

Give a Caption -rules as follows

And do the same for all the games active.

Thats just an idea, Im sure others might have better ones. But we do need to make sure the rules dont get left behind when starting a new thread. Who knows we might even get new players as a result.

Has the Mystery landscape game taken the place of Mystery Photo Game as that game allowed photos of things other than landscapes. Or is there no call for anything but landscapes and kitchen gadgets?
