Rules reminder: it's 10 posts or 48 hours... (whichever comes first!)

And neither has yet. About 7 hours to go.

Remember that who ever wins should cut and paste the rules so everyone knows them. New players stop in here and have a go also.
And yes the rules are mostly flexible.

Oh and Chris S. you have an appointment with a squad:)

Coming by Beets discussion late ...
I remember a caution about the 10 caption rule saying something to the effect of if the 10 came in an hour wait some more time so others could caption. That was written at a time when the TPTPW thread went over 1000 in less than a week. Participation has fallen since then.

I'd also like to monkey wrench about captions, posts or people. We have had people post more than one caption at a time. I also think the spirit was for ten different posters.

I've never been completely happy with how Beets rules got written. I'm going to suggest another way to frame it, numbers subject to revision.

Project down time extends the clock.
Minimum 24 hours, so everyone gets a chance.
Minimum 10 captions, so there is something to pick.
Maximum time is 48 hours, no matter how many people/posts/captions, to keep the game moving.
Maximum captions 25, no matter how short a time, to prevent the contest from getting unwieldy long.
Between these limits it is up to the picture poster when to call it. Mods should be flexible realizing that a limit may be hit while someone is asleep.

Also of course the rest of the rules on posting 2nd 3rd place and the time limits to post the next pic.

Sounds reasonable to me.

I'm going to append a phrase onto one of them: "...while a person is asleep or otherwise unavailable."

Message 1425358 - Posted: 7 Oct 2013, 18:34:58 UTC - in response to Message 1425287.

Rules rules rules rules

The main point is that the Beets caption thread remains alive and and inviting for people to want to participate in. Clearly what we don't want is one to drag on for 4 or 5 days or to have dozens of entries. At the moment under my temporary stewardship we have 9 entries and (shock horror, smack my bum ...) we are 5 hours or so over the 48. So what? I couldn't give a tuppeny damn!!! If people don't like it tough! If the Mods don't like it tough!

I am working within the spirit of the rules as intended, without being bound by petty demarcations. The most important thing is for the current winner to post during the contest to show that they are keeping an eye on it and that it won't fall through the floorboards and be forgotten. That to me is the most important part.

Point taken here. What say ye all?

I agree with Chris.

I also want to remind you that some versions took longer than 5 days and this wasn`t a big drame imho.

Yes, we all have a life and need to sleep sometime.
All comments need to be posted here, unless we are waiting for a new pic.
This includes the current owner. This is why Gary started this thread.

The Mods should move any comments posted during the contest here, without having to be prompted.
This is also part of the Job description knowing the rules of the various games and enforcing them.

As a former mod, Not every mod visits every thread posted. I know there was no way I could read every thread and automatically move threads with out a red x saying hey this is not right what say you.

My biggest bitch and still is, Is the winners when they have to start a new thread not copying and pasteing the rules to a new thread. And then seeing new posters getting reamed out for not following the rules.

Yes they are rules, But there is aslo leeway in enforcing them.
Back when I had to look up Beets original rules it was 24 hours with a minimun of ten captions. There never was a cap on how many in the 10 hours.

As I see there is a big flap starting about the rules, Maybe you need another rules convention to change and or modify them.

I used to play Beets, so it is one thread I still read and keep up on just like this discussion thread.
Thats my 2 cents worth.

I agree with that too, and I'll gladly give you 2 cents for it. (Or even a drink on me at Rocky's.)
