My recollection (probably faulty) is that the old "guess the picture" thread had very much become a location based game. So it was re-born as the "guess the location". the along came the "guess the kitchen bit", so why not give the "guess the odd bit" a go. Well, if there is no objection, the mystery landscape game could be morphed over into a broader spectrum, but it would have to be by consensus I would believe. Just wonder if it might be to broad of a scope or step on the toes of other photo games? Maybe some new rules to open it up more? Just some passing thoughts... Mark |

2. Chooses a number to be the post declared the next winner and records it somehow. (yellow sticky, etc.) We've had instances where the first post after an event was used. iirc the first fireworks seen on July the 4th (maybe 2011?) were such an event. Just to show that this amendment to the rule is already 'in use'. A person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read. (Mark Twain) |

Id like to propose that if a post is hidden in the count to game that the game continues as is. Otherwise whos knows how many other pics are going to get hidden just to keep it consistent. So as an example of what can happen I could delete all posts up to 11814 so you all could start over. Is that really needed?
Old James |

After all I don't think anyone is keeping track of the now locked threads, but the mods might have to hide a picture in one. Would we suddenly have to have say pic 124 all over again? Now if it is the highest numbered pic, that would be an exception. |

Certainly once a TLWTPW thread is well under-way ignoring a number that's been hidden, or otherwise "lost" is no hardship. If there are only a small number of posts in the thread, or a large number of hidden/lost posts then its a different ball game and we will have to look at each case on its merits. In no way should this be seen as an open door to the persistent posting of obviously copyright material. ./Facepalm MARK.. do you really need to drag religion into BEETS as a way to bypass the request to keep it to the political thread? Two things are a great way to start an argument, Religion and politics. And I am the only person that is right about either one. New revised bible: Be ye not a Jerk. The end. Janice |

Referencing the rules for the Mystery Landscape thread: What exactly constitutes a "landscape" picture? In the past, folks have posted famous buildings, points of interests in a city and so on. The most recent post is of a architectural setting that seems like it would be fun to narrow down and identify. Not a landscape per say, but it has enough character to help with the guessing. Should we open it up a little to include these types of postings? Not sure where to go with this... Mark |

Landscape: "An expanse of scenery", expanse: "A wide scope" or "A wide and open space or area as of surface or land or sky" and scenery: "the appearance of a place". Perhaps it really should be titled Mystery Place game? Unless you want to take a narrow view and call if Mystery Natural Landscape game? Where would you put a underwater photo of the great barrier reef? I think the rule should be construed liberally. |

I think your suggestion of the "Mystery Place" game is a good one. It would offer more possibilities and make the game more interesting. Maybe on the next thread we could change over to it and set up some rules to cover it? Detailing the rules would be the next challenge... Mark |

Once we settle on rules, Julie or a mod can change the title. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

The question to be answered of the photo is "What is the name of this place?" The poster will need to give us a hint if he is looking for a specific name such as a building name or if the name of the town is good enough. In other words how big a place name he is looking for. |

It was "Mystery Photograph" or something like that, and we had to figure out what and/or where it was. We had churches, government buildings, museums and famous places, statues, sometimes landscapes. We only recently got specific to "landscapes". Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |

Possibly time to call an end to the "Count to thread"? Mods should not have to search back through threads to delete over copyright issues at least that is what I assume is happening, and while the thread continues this will always be a problem. I stopped posting in the thread after being accused of planting a virus(it was just a dodgy site link) of which there have been a few. I for one would like to see it gone. |

As some of you know the Mods are hiding all past threads of the count to threads. The reason is copyrighted photos. Yes its a lot of E-mails going out but its faster and less E-mails then hiding each post of copyrighted material itself. We have been told to hide all obvious copyrighted pictures cartoons are what ever. And if the owner of a said unknown copyrighted picture complains they will be hidden also. This will apply across the forums. The legal staff has still not replyed to the Admins yet on this issue.
Old James |

Looks like all pictures are banned. After all, 100% of pictures are copyrighted. I think a more sensible action would be to disable the [ img ] tag and be done with the problem. |
