I wrote about this issue a little more than a year ago and the responses did not solve my issue so I'm posting again in hope that new eyes may see a solution. My PC is Win 7 Ult x64, 8 GB RAM, 1.5 TB HDD. I had BOINC running on it and did an upgrade that hosed the existing install. I believe I had 6.10.58 onboard and went to 6.12.34. I received error 1714 and so it began. I have done: Removed 6.10 via Add/Remove programs. Reinstall of 6.12 failed Removed 6.10 via Windows Uninstall utility Reinstall of 6.12 failed Ran regedit and removed all mentions of BOINC, setiathome, Space Services (top level folder for BOINC), removed all folders reflecting BOINC or other related folders. Reinstall of 6.12 failed Ran through the above again, and tried to reinstall 6.10, that failed too with error 1714. I've downloaded 7.0.28 that fails with the 1714 error. I've tried the 7.0.42 it failed, but it's x86, I just wanted to see what would happen. I have sanitized my machine as best I can regarding BOINC software and any potential leftovers and am still at odds as how to make this work. I have the 7.0.28 (x64) running on 2 other Win 7 boxes and a Win 8 box all without incident. What am I missing and just how do I fix it? Thank you. |

Argh - a windows installer message, to do with unable to remove an old version. There's an old thread about this: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=27050 Its a few years old, but may give you the pointers you need to sort out your current problem.
