A very sad twist to Twitter and silly (non-)security and non-privacy and male ignorance: So... Also some very bad crass Marketing stupidity at the expense and disruption to others. There should be a claim for fraud and extortion for that nasty bit of Marketing trash. Hope they get shut down. I wonder if this guy has realised what he has said & the possible outcomes of that: - "He said the fight comes down to: “Do you want a model or a society that allows women to become ministers in government, female fighter pilots, business executives, artists — or do you want a society where, if a woman doesn’t cover up in public, she’s beaten or she’s lashed or she’s raped. I mean this is ultimately what this breaks down to.†" Mariam-Al-Mansouri 1st Female fighter pilot for U.A.E |

Are professionals really that deprived? But then again, who watches the watchers? "An investigation is under way to find out why the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) took 16 months to share suspicions about Bradbury with police." |

On a shining positive note for once: Malala and Kailash Satyarthi win Nobel Peace Prize Pakistani child education activist Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi, an Indian child rights campaigner, have jointly won the Nobel Peace Prize. At the age of just 17, Malala is the youngest ever recipient of the prize. The teenager was shot in the head by Taliban gunmen in October 2012 for campaigning for girls' education. She now lives in Birmingham in the UK. The Nobel committee praised the pair's "struggle against the suppression of children and young people". Mr Satyarthi has maintained the tradition of Mahatma Gandhi and headed various forms of peaceful protests, "focusing on the grave exploitation of children for financial gain,"... That's the problem with a fair amount of people. They don't see the 2 sides of criticism - Constructive & Destructive. All they see is criticism of their beliefs/ideals/views & that's "the" red flag. One only has to look to these boards for excellent examples of that. |

Misogyny is alive and well in Utah: Shouldn't that read, "Second Amendment alive and well in Utah?" Or, has the FLDS displaced the LDS as the government of Utah? |

Has the what displaced the what now? Nevermind, carry on...:) Or, perhaps, you didn't understand his point. Shouldn't that read, "Second Amendment alive and well in Utah?" Or, has the FLDS displaced the LDS as the government of Utah? Under Utah state law, the police did not have the right to restrict weapons from the particular venue the woman's speech was to be held. So, she didn't give the speech. LDS = Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints... (aka Mormons). FLDS = Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints... A splinter group from the mainstream LDS known for more... traditional... beliefs (held by the LDS MANY years ago before they 'mellowed out' as a condition for statehood for Utah)... such as, for instance, polygyny. Considered by many to be rather misogynist. As to the subject of the woman's speech, there are misogynist jerkwads in all walks of life, including SOME online gamers. However it is disingenuous in the extreme to claim that online gamers, as an entire group, are misogynist, in light of the fact that the majority of online gamers ARE women. The dinglefritz putz that threatened the woman needs to be prosecuted for making the threat. But what about the incident in Utah (other than, of course, whatshisnertz the perp) is misogynist? The police enforcing the law? The law itself? |

But what about the incident in Utah (other than, of course, whatshisnertz the perp) is misogynist? The police enforcing the law? The law itself? Well the incident itself is misogynistic. Someone is denied her free speech through the threat of force simply because she is a women who talks about feminism and female representation in the game. And Anita Sarkeesian has been threatened before for her views on female representation in games. In any case, this is probably related to Gamergate which is pretty much the misogynistic group of gamers against the more progressive games media and gamers. And yes, there are quite a few misogynists within gaming culture. |

But what about the incident in Utah (other than, of course, whatshisnertz the perp) is misogynist? The police enforcing the law? The law itself? Don't give me that CROCK about her 'free speech' was denied. She exercised her Free Speech rights QUITE effectively when she announced she was not going to give her talk because of the threat. Her backing out on the talk probably did MORE to advance her cause than giving her talk would have. I NEVER denied that there are some misogynistic elements in gaming culture. It exists, I have seen it. Not only on the part of the players, but also in game artwork (nearly nekkid women, for instance -- encourages seeing women as 'sexual objects' -- sorry, but armor that shows more skin than a string bikini AIN'T armor). But, unless WOMEN can be misogynists, the misogynists are NOT the majority in gaming culture. Women are the majority in gaming culture. Now that said... The perp that made the threat needs to be located, arrested, and put on trial. I don't know the Utah law, but I presume it is somewhat similar to Texas law on the subject. In Texas, 'making a terroristic threat' is a crime. Texas Penal Code wrote: Sec. 22.07. TERRORISTIC THREAT. Perp. threatened violence at a public event. That is automatically a Class A misdemeanor (1 year in jail + several thousand US$ fine), unless the economic loss at the event exceeds US$1500.00, in which case it is a felony (I think s class 3 felony.. 2 to 10 years, tens of thousands of US$ fine). But then, I am cynical enough to have suspicions that she arranged the threat, just for the publicity. |
