Can I see anything unusual?

Hi, another newbie here :) Regarding the screensaver graphs, can any of us actually see if some sort of unusual activity was ever found ie, the graphics go hayway? a sound made? how will any of us know if one of our pc's were to find something in space or is this not possible, and only Seti themselves will be notified (via our pc'c?) Sorry if these are daft questions? |

Rita, First welcome to SETI@Home Now to answer your question: In simple terms - no, you see nothing, or hear nothing. We are filtering vast quantities of data, and then the results of our efforts are compared with at least one other person who has "looked" at the same bit of sky, on the same time and date. This is then compared to other data from the same place on a different date and time to see if there is a trend. All this takes time, months or years, not minutes.....
