	This was a 6.3 quake according to KTLA TV, initially the quake was labeled as a 6.4... http://ktla.com/2012/12/14/6-4-quake-hits-off-coast-of-avalon/ AVALON, Calif. (KTLA) — A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck off the coast of Avalon, near Catalina Island, early Friday morning. The quake hit at 2:36 a.m and was centered about 163 miles south-southwest of Avalon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The shaking was felt in Bell Gardens, San Pedro and Rancho Palos Verdes. 	Off San Diego area from what I can see. That San Andreas has to go one day ...... As the story goes since I live here but in the northern CA, LA will be some day by San Francisco in many years. San Diego is included. I don't think I'll stick around one. LA to San Francisco? about 400 miles. Movement of the fault to us is so slow but to nature it's a norm. We get quakes all the time but think nothing about them unless they hit 6.0 and dumps your coffee cup. :)

	The Sylmar quake threw me out of bed. My brother went zz huh? oh an earthquake.. and rolled over and went back to sleep. A few miles away there was a collapsed hospital and bridges. There are many variables in an earth quake. Avalon is approx 23 miles from Los Angeles on Santa Catalina Island. So just about anyone on the mainland would have probably felt little or nothing. ____________ Janice

	In August 1975, my boat was tying up to the submarine tender USS Proteus in Guam when an earthquake occurred just offshore. Felt like we were bouncing hard for about 30 seconds. Had to wait an hour for the powerhouse to come back online and give us shore power. I remember Sylmar, and Northridge. In 1989, I was at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, 30 miles N/NE of San Francisco when the World Series quake hit. And in 1983, I was tossed out of my waterbed by a quake offshore of San Diego. I've also survived tornados in Oklahoma, a hurricane in Charleston SC, and typhoons in Hawai'i, the Philipines, and Japan. Mother Nature is one tough cookie. Especially as the quake more properly should be described as offshore from Ensanada, Mexico, Baja California del Norte. ____________
