I think your right in that comment, Mark.

All the scandals in the UK - Banking, Parliament, etc - relate to relaxed standards, and a loss of moral standards.

This is just another example for an Institution which is still on the Gold Standard. But, a sometime jazzier persuader is trying to move them to a Brass Standard and make money at Berkeley's expense.

And don't you think that they might have done a little research by running this by the faculty and students first to gauge the reaction before doing a full rollout and then having to retract it? LOL.

Obviously they did before the Logo roll out.

Are we not seeing all this really supporting comment we are talking about?

I agree that marketing firms can generate ridiculous icons (anyone remember izzy from the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta? Look up an image, compare to something from biology...)

Here's a side view of Izzy on the right, Sam is on the left(1984).

So He has a tail.

Sam makes some sense. Izzy really does not. It looks like it came off of the reproductive biology pages.

The Sam figure I have one of, I got My Sam cause someone threw it into My yard, it's plastic and in pretty decent shape. But then I've been to the Olympics, even when it was in LA in 1984...
