A master sitar player and champion of Indian music, Ravi Shankar has passed.
I remember his music from very long ago as a lad.
And I did not realize that he was the father of Norah Jones, another artist I enjoy very much.

Rest in peace, Ravi.

Famed Indian sitar player Ravi Shankar dies at 92.

He had a strong connection with the Beatles.

And that is where I fist heard of him. RIP Ravi.

Fortunately as he passes over he leaves us his daughter Anoushka an accomplished
player in her own right.

I was fortunate to have seen him perform about 4 times. I truly was a master on the Sitar. He will be missed.

A friend of mine is a rookie music teacher in Kansas. He posted this on Facebook the other day:

In regards to Ravi Shankar's passing...
Student: "Sad, he didn't even make it to Christmas."
Me: "Well, seeing that he's not a Christian, I'm not sure how much that mattered to him."
Student: "Not a Christian? I'm not listening to this anymore." She then proceeded to plug her ears with her fingers.

Sigh... at least I can know that I'm the first person to expose these kids to this music.
