I have at maximum NZ$300 to spend which is US$245.88. Out of the 500 series range of cards what is the best card for bang for my buck? I like the sound of either Gigabyte or Asus cards If you could get one at the right price, the GTX-660 is the winner. It outperforms the older cards, and uses less power to do it. The other option would be a 650Ti, which wouldn't be as fast as a 560. But it would use much, much less power (at least 70W less). http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/543?vs=660 My PCIE slot is only 2.0. I have read that there is very little speed decrease if you use a PCIE 3.0 card in a 2.0 slot. Can anybody confirm this? Unless the games are extremely graphically demanding, PCIe 2v3 isn't an issue. And for crunching purposes the effect is minimal if any. ____________ Grant Darwin NT.

As I have a GTX 670, GTX 660 and GTX 650 Ti, you can look at my 2 computers to get an idea of crunching times.

As I have a GTX 670, GTX 660 and GTX 650 Ti, you can look at my 2 computers to get an idea of crunching times. Thankyou for details. I gather both your mother boards are PCIE 3.0? Out of interest what temps are you seeing from your GPU'S & hw big is your PSU in the rig you have your 660 in? Last but not least do you need to use air con in summer if you run 3 tasks at a time on a hot day? ____________ Live in NZ y not join Smile City?

Last but not least do you need to use air con in summer if you run 3 tasks at a time on a hot day? I've got a Gigabyte GTX-560Ti factory overclock. Running 3 at a time it's at 75°c with the fans running at 90%. Indoor temperature is around 35°c. A GTX-660Ti would do more work for about 30-50W less power. That would result in significantly lower operating temperatures. ____________ Grant Darwin NT.

Last but not least do you need to use air con in summer if you run 3 tasks at a time on a hot day? No, it really doesn't. I don't want to go back, back, back through all of this, but the 660Ti performs about like the 560 (no-Ti) for crunching SETI. The evidence is out there if anyone cares to look. Your overclock Gigabyte 560Ti will out-produce a SC 660Ti; no contest. ____________

Last but not least do you need to use air con in summer if you run 3 tasks at a time on a hot day? My own 560ti (An eVGA superclocked model) has been a stellar performer over time. I'd also go either SC 560ti, or 670/680. There are some things to take care with 560ti's most of us will be aware of by now, but they apply to varying degrees in anything equal or higher performing. As I have a GTX 670, GTX 660 and GTX 650 Ti, you can look at my 2 computers to get an idea of crunching times. Both boards are PCIE 2.0. The 660 is running around 60c crunching 3 at a time. The 650 Ti is running around 65c crunching 2 at a time, smaller card. The 670 is running around 60c crunching 2 at a time. The 660 is running off of a 530 watt PSU The 650 Ti and 670 are running off of a 850 watt PSU. I always have to run A/C in the summer as my 1969 DW trailer has no insulation at all. ____________

I always have to run A/C in the summer as my 1969 DW trailer has no insulation at all. I guess you can save a bit of power in the winter by using your rigs to heat your trailer? ____________ Live in NZ y not join Smile City?

Does anybody know of of a company in the states/US that I can buy the card through that will then ship it to New Zealand?I have not been able to find one at this point. I do most of my business with TigerDirect here in the states, which is a subsidary of Systmax. Systmax has partners/sites world wide, you might try one of them. I have dealt with TigerDirect for over 10 years and have never been disappointed. I can count the number of times that I have to send something back, for one reason or another on two fingers. GOOD LUCK!! Here's the link to Systmax's worldwide partners http://www.misco.nl/worldwidepartners ____________ I don't buy computers, I build them!!

Thank you for the Tiger direct link Cliff, unfortunately I cannot seem to find a gigabyte branded card or the ability to be able to ship to my address in New Zealand, even though the amount in the cart came to what I could only issue was New Zealand dollars.

Are either of these cards good for GPU use Most likely I'd say yes for either card, either stock or with water. The card will run fine on pcie 2.0. ____________ BSG Anthem My Facebook page

Thanks VW I'll be running the card on air. I will purchase in early 2013.Are either of these cards good for GPU use If I were buying the card for Myself, I'd not get the one with the bigger fans, as it looks like it would be better for heat to exhaust outside of the case. ____________ BSG Anthem My Facebook page

Thanks for this information. What card would you go for? ____________ Live in NZ y not join Smile City?

Provided this card has screws on the side of the casing like the GTX590 does, I'd get the MSI N680GTX-PM2D2GD5 2GB, the MSI N680GTX Lightning GeForce GTX 680 2GB would better in an open test stand in My opinion. Now the MSI N680GTX Lightning GeForce GTX 680 2GB could be put in a HAF-932 or a HAF-X case with a HAF-932 side panel with 4 108cfm fans to help exhaust any excess heat, then it might be possible to house more than one card of that type. ____________ BSG Anthem My Facebook page
