stumbled upon this in my wee early hours of random surfing. Thought it was quite interesting. http://www.adapteva.com/products/epiphany-ip/epiphany-architecture-ip/

What about this collection of computers then?

OJezUMz1K42XhQe7tIGoCQ&sqi=2&ved=0CDMQsAQ&biw=1024&bih=673

Put the above on one line, by the way. It became a little long.

From my own experience I know that access to the Internet / World Wide Web is a relief and a must - being a user on one single computer other than a PC is not the same. If you happen to be an ordinary user being so lucky having access to a mainframe computer or even a supercomputer, you should be happy to access to 5% or less of the computational capabilities of this computer. The rest of it is left to the computer administrator (superuser / root / admin) to utilize.

Its full capacity is therefore reserved for the very few that are in charge of such a system.

The Internet / World Wide Web should sometimes be thought of as the world's biggest computer, by the way.

What a coincidence!

Therefore, as a rule of thumb:

Play games on your own computer. Run BOINC and its projects on your own computer as well. Perhaps some systems administrator is willing to donate 5 % of his or her computer time to your research project.

Unfortunately those people in charge of mainframes and supercomputers find it very hard to change their mind when it comes to this.

At "Lunatics" we already take part in funding of Parallella project. So should recive some hardware in reward when it will be ready. Will see what can be done with it then. So far looks like it will support OpenCL.
