Well I was really hoping to break a personal record and get 2M wu's for the year. But looks like I'm gonna come up short now. Got machines working other projects because they can't send, report or pull new units. Hopefully things are up and stable before xmas so I can try again next year. Meanwhile, you folks enjoy your holiday - you've earned it.

any news about scheduler?

This is from the front page.
Restoring the database to a point in time just before the power outage is taking longer than expected. The new estimate for being back online is Wednesday, Dec 5.

I don't understand why anyone should lose Recent Average Credit, when these outages occur? Not our faults.
I had 265 Recent Average Credit back when, and now next to nothing. It's a shame this had to happen. I only run one computer. Happy Holidays, to Everyone!

That is a much bigger number than 265. Are you confusing the average credit per day with total credit?

I've been crunching since 2000 and lately have noticed that the servers keeps going down more frequently. Instead of leaving the seti project, I've joined another boinc project so my computers doesn't crunch "idle time".
When the seti servers seem to be back online, i usually set my other boinc projects not to recieve any more work.

Good luck with fixing your servers as we all will be waiting patiently. :-)

I haven't gotten any new tasks since Nov. 29.

This note was on the front page since 30th November and is still there now!!

Unscheduled Power Outage
Power to the north east side of the Berkeley campus and the Space Science Lab was interruped this morning at about 16:30 UTC until about 17:30. The cause of the outage has not yet been determined. We're working to get our databased back in working order. Current estimate is that we'll be back online on Tuesday, Dec 4. UPDATE (Dec 4) : Restoring the database to a point in time just before the power outage is taking longer than expected. The new estimate for being back online is Wednesday, Dec 5.

Due to the long outage new tasks will be in short supply so patience is required!!

Tell the truth now. There is nothing wrong with your equipment. It's because the extra-terrestrials set their status to 'AFK'. (yeah I know...wishful thinking)

Take your time fixing the problem. We been waiting for over 50 years to hear a voice from 'out there'. A few days offline won't kill us. We are a patient lot. :)

What's a 'wingman'?

Every task your computer is working on is also being done by at least one other. The owner of that computer is your wingman. (Yes, it's a somewhat un-PC term, and some people here say wingperson or just wingy. Wingman just flows off the tongue (and keyboard) better, though. And, while I've never seen a statistical breakdown, I'd bet that the vast majority of users are male, so wingman is accurate more often than not.)

The fact that you were able to post that question here proves that everything is back up and running. Now it's just a matter of an unusually long recovery period from an unusually long outage.

Me the same last 4 task are running and what is done
it won't take away, and when I see my account it says
I have 67 task witch isn't true, cause I have 4 task.

By the way Good Morning from a white Netherlands
tomorrow there is more snow expected and freezing cold.

Good morning here, afternoon there, from Chicago. We are expecting our first significant snow of the season this Sunday night into Monday morning, which is rather late for it to occur. We've had some freezing cold too, but not a lot.

Your other 63 tasks will be resolved when you finally make contact with the scheduler. Either they will be re-sent as lost tasks or they will be timed out for you and reassigned to someone else.

Message 1311773 - Posted: 6 Dec 2012, 15:14:49 UTC - in response to Message 1311600.

My eight boxes here ran out of work last week much to my surprise.

I read all the messages about the down time and why so I gave them a holiday (powered off for a few days).

So I started this box today (we are EST +12hrs)as the main seti site says it will be back (an I see it is) but the local scheduler is still delaying 3 hours each time and raising but I guess that is because I am here in the middle of Asia AKA 3rd world, and not on any big pipe to get all the complete work into the server so no point in turning the rest on until at least one box get updated.

PS: ET that is the hold message you are hearing on that phone call..

Unless you're trying to save electricity, turn on all of them but set all but one to no new tasks. That way they can at least keep trying to report what they've done. In fact, once they've reported, you can turn them off again if you want. Once the one gets some work, let another ask for some. Repeat until they all get some.

It's not just Seti falling over from time to time.
Just did a search for Theory of Relativity on a site using Google as it's search engine and it fell over with this message:-

Service Unavailable - DNS failure
The server is temporarily unable to service your request. Please try again later.

Reference #11.871c20d9.1354807311.11fe4d67

So perhaps the Aliens are all trying to book their flights for 20th December via the internet and are checking Relativity sites to see if they are able to travel faster than light if they reduce their luggage to zero mass, to comply with the Einstein theories in relation to Energy required to move a mass at the speed of light and beyond.

Finally got all my WU reported, but now no more SETI WU to do.
Got Einstein WU running at the moment which coincidentally are running faster than light..
....I threw my Lamp across the room.. to see how fast light was.

Also got Orbit@home project running but it's got no work at all, so wonder if it's a dead project?

When my Seti work units run dry, I allow malariacontrol.net to get new tasks, with a 'resource share' of "10" (Seti is set to "1000"). I click "No new tasks" for malariacontrol.net once Seti work units return. I like to think of it my socially conscious alternative, for when I can't up my Seti stats. The one thing I don't like about malariacontrol.net is the short deadlines.

Message 1311809 - Posted: 6 Dec 2012, 17:09:16 UTC - in response to Message 1311515.

I now have errors in my results, all of which are down to two periods of server downtime.

Because these appear as errors, I take it that my machine has been plodding away for no good reason.

Well, SETI Bêta is up and running,
. UTC= 17:04

Haven't seen much (no) work in the last week, so no errors ;-)

Well you could make a SETI Bêta account, unless you have one already, Less ??1
They're always 'short on testing', too.
