Message 1311385 - Posted: 5 Dec 2012, 18:53:15 UTC - in response to Message 1311382.

It's great that folks are getting some processing time, but sadly all of my computers have all of their work "ready to report" and it has been that way for several days. I tried to force an update but got the same old "server not found, project may be down for maintenance" or something like that. I will patiently wait for you to fix remaining problems to be resolved. Maybe then Work Units will return to normal processing? It is my hope !!!

There has been a notice on the front page since last Friday explaining the problem.
It is in fact still there now.

Message 1311447 - Posted: 5 Dec 2012, 20:08:43 UTC - in response to Message 1311385.

Question: What happens to completed tasks that have gone beyond the deadline date and time but have not reported because of the server problem? I will have many completed tasks that have a deadline after today. Will they still be good tasks?

If you report them before eithier 1) they are resent 2) if they are resent, before your wingman reports them, then you'll still get credit,

I suspect associated with this problem, I have seen a period with "bad gateway" for scheduler dialogue (see example below)

2012-12-05 12:23:18 | SETI@home | Scheduler request failed: HTTP bad gateway

This has now been replaced by the following:

2012-12-06 09:33:39 | SETI@home | Scheduler request failed: HTTP gateway timeout

This happens on various machines I have and I am not aware of any change in network reconfiguration "at my end" which might be the cause ... Is this part of the problem, something else or some weird transient issue?

I have 100 sets of results on one of my machines alone patiently awaiting upload.

Cheers for now,
Rik

Rik: If u are using a proxy server, the proxy gateway got either overloaded and timed out, or they closed access to the Seti server because of demand.

I haven't had work for a week, SETI Bêta still sends work, CPU and 0.963CPU+1GPU, v7 MB work.

They urgently need tons of $$$, try to danate as soon as possible, Europe
so the Netherlands too, still are in the 'middle ' of an econimic recess.

But glad, S.E.T.I., is back up and running :-)

I now have errors in my results, all of which are down to two periods of server downtime.

Because these appear as errors, I take it that my machine has been plodding away for no good reason.
I think I am. Therefore I am. I think.

For someone supposedly in such a high stratosphere of management the clouds have obviously blurred his concept of the operations of a non-profit volunteer organization; including the fact that SETI is run on donations, and the sheer will, commitment, strength and determination of volunteers.

If major corporate dollars were supporting such a project then the expectation of the project remaining bug free and permanently online would be higher.

Maybe he should volunteer corporate money, I mean real MONEY, to the project instead of bitching about it.

A patient volunteer

Nah, it's just E.T. trying to phone home. Wants to leave this Solar System before December 21, 2012. He will pickup Beautiful Blonds on the way out.

Down time Bites, but such is the life of Science. Maybe Murphy was really on to something. I broke out my Abbacus just in case the World goes to the proverbial H---.

I joined SETI just after Stardate or Planetary Report wrote the report on SETI. I imediately joined. I think that was in 8/99. But I seem to have lost credit for several years. How sad.
You guys that volunteer to struggle through this horrific problem, my hat is off to you. I do not have the knowledge to offer any results. Just go for it, and I will patiently await operations again.
Reading all the comments, I see I am not involved in MANY and would like to be involved. Where do I go to get logged in besides WCG?

I know you're having issues, but what will happen to my work that has been processed and is sitting on my three computers waiting to sent to SETI? I'm new here so be kind. Thank you ...

My eight boxes here ran out of work last week much to my surprise.

I read all the messages about the down time and why so I gave them a holiday (powered off for a few days).

So I started this box today (we are EST +12hrs)as the main seti site says it will be back (an I see it is) but the local scheduler is still delaying 3 hours each time and raising but I guess that is because I am here in the middle of Asia AKA 3rd world, and not on any big pipe to get all the complete work into the server so no point in turning the rest on until at least one box get updated.

PS: ET that is the hold message you are hearing on that phone call..

What type of BOINC projects? The full list is too long to send, but here are most of those related to astronomy:

Albert@Home (warning - alpha test)

Einstein@Home

Also, here's someone's try at a full list:

I believe I've seen a thread for recovering your original start date - you might want to read recent messages in all the forums here and see if you can find it.

I've lost the information on exactly when I started, but it was either 2002 or earlier.

Just picked up 80 lost tasks, in 4 groups of 20. Most going back to mid-October. So, looks like some catching up happening....slowly but surely. Tis a shame that Einstein may be right...we CANNOT go as fast as the speed of light. Bit of kibbles better than water alone.
