I had several short tasks which were seemingly being ignored by BOINC, it only seemed to process the new work units

Ordinary expected behavior from BOINC. It does things in the most illogical, to a human, order.

Big tip - don't let Windows update the driver for your GPU as doing so is known to be a source of great agro and grief.

Thanks Gary and Rob for your feedback.

So far all is working fine again, GPU has been a busy beaver working through all the small Work Units and CPU (3 out of 4 Cores active on Seti) has been working on the big ones.

cheers

The best place to start troubleshooting on the scheduler is what has changed since the last time it was up and running. Hardware, software patching, software update? And is your system producing a dump file of some kind. Check your logs and your dump file to see where the problem is happening and go from there.

Has the server gone down again? After 2 days of no problems I notice again that the updates of WU's and uploads of completed WU's as stalled

I belive someone is making some tests on diferent configurations the lab, now there are 7 MB/1 AP -Spliters working (producing a lot of WU ready to Send) but as espected (show by the cricket graph) the pipe reaches it´s full capacity, the last 2 days they only put about 4 or 5 Mb MB/1AP splitters to work and the pipe works fine with that.

It's great that folks are getting some processing time, but sadly all of my computers have all of their work "ready to report" and it has been that way for several days. I tried to force an update but got the same old "server not found, project may be down for maintenance" or something like that. I will patiently wait for you to fix remaining problems to be resolved. Maybe then Work Units will return to normal processing? It is my hope !!!

There has been a notice on the front page since last Friday explaining the problem.
It is in fact still there now.

Question: What happens to completed tasks that have gone beyond the deadline date and time but have not reported because of the server problem? I will have many completed tasks that have a deadline after today. Will they still be good tasks?

Frank

If you report them before eithier 1) they are resent 2) if they are resent, before your wingman reports them, then you'll still get credit,

I suspect associated with this problem, I have seen a period with "bad gateway" for scheduler dialogue (see example below)

2012-12-05 12:23:18 | SETI@home | Scheduler request failed: HTTP bad gateway

This has now been replaced by the following:

2012-12-06 09:33:39 | SETI@home | Scheduler request failed: HTTP gateway timeout

This happens on various machines I have and I am not aware of any change in network reconfiguration "at my end" which might be the cause ... Is this part of the problem, something else or some weird transient issue?

I have 100 sets of results on one of my machines alone patiently awaiting upload.

Cheers for now,
Rik

Rik: If u are using a proxy server, the proxy gateway got either overloaded and timed out, or they closed access to the Seti server because of demand.

I haven't had work for a week, SETI Bêta still sends work, CPU and 0.963CPU+1GPU, v7 MB work.

They urgently need tons of $$$, try to danate as soon as possible, Europe
so the Netherlands too, still are in the 'middle ' of an econimic recess.

But glad, S.E.T.I., is back up and running :-)

I now have errors in my results, all of which are down to two periods of server downtime.

Because these appear as errors, I take it that my machine has been plodding away for no good reason.

I think I am. Therefore I am. I think.

Well at last my WU's have uploaded but I cannot get new work. The client is deferring for up to 3 hours at a time. Will keep trying

For someone supposedly in such a high stratosphere of management the clouds have obviously blurred his concept of the operations of a non-profit volunteer organization; including the fact that SETI is run on donations, and the sheer will, commitment, strength and determination of volunteers.

If major corporate dollars were supporting such a project then the expectation of the project remaining bug free and permanently online would be higher.

Maybe he should volunteer corporate money, I mean real MONEY, to the project instead of bitching about it.

A patient volunteer

Nah, it's just E.T. trying to phone home. Wants to leave this Solar System before December 21, 2012. He will pickup Beautiful Blonds on the way out.

I joined SETI just after Stardate or Planetary Report wrote the report on SETI. I imediately joined. I think that was in 8/99. But I seem to have lost credit for several years. How sad.
You guys that volunteer to struggle through this horrific problem, my hat is off to you. I do not have the knowledge to offer any results. Just go for it, and I will patiently await operations again.
Reading all the comments, I see I am not involved in MANY and would like to be involved. Where do I go to get logged in besides WCG?
