Why has it been so difficult to detect alien signals? Well, I suspect alien transmissions will be concise, something equivalent to:

"NI!"

(I wonder if they have exclamation points too?)

Oh, it's Carl Sagan, not Carl Sagen.

Unfortunately he passed away some time ago. He was a great scientist and very good at explaining scientific things and matters to the general public. You may perhaps remember the "Cosmos" television series. Despite some personal "stunts", there was much to be learnt from this series.

Right now I do not have the number of episodes which were produced, but this should not be too difficult at finding out using YouTube.

You guessed it right - I am on it already.

If only Seti could use these...

No reason it can't.

But you do have to ask.

If asked in the right way it is a cheap win for the Chinese this could embarrass

the us into minimal support of seti again.

Hit the Chinese up for an endowment as well, can you say Chinese programmer at

Berkeley.

I would be thankful for that.

I think that a full steerable array like ALMA could be more useful. But again, it is not easy to get time on an astronomical telescope, like the 64 meter Sardinia antenna in Italy, which is of the configurable type.

I'm relatively new to this project - I've really only had my desktop crunch for 1 month or less. Sometime in between, work intensified or something came up so, I was unable to contribute to the project. Now that I'm much more efficient and alive, with a better desktop and plenty of resources, I've once again joined the effort in the search for E.T.!

Go to the Number Crunching forum, where there is a looooong discussion of the various problems with the servers.

You don't have to give up on Seti, son.
If you wish, pick an alternate project, give it a zero percent workshare, and Boinc will do that project until Seti comes back up.

I have one computer doing Einstein right now.
The other 8 are just waiting for Seti to come back up and resume crunching.
