quote I gave up on running Multibeam on the 4670. I tried all the different apps, configurations, and whatnot. All I get is nothing, but, one pegged cpu core indicating it's trying to start but hangs after the above text in the stderr.txt file. No errors anywhere, just a hang. I guess that machine will have to wait for more AP tasks. I was looking for a ZALMAN VNF100 for my HD3650 when I got the 4670. Considering the cost of the VNF100, the 4670 was very, very cheap at that time. So, this card will run APs but not MBs The error message stderr is just standard error and is usually followed by a memory location this likely means one of the programs or dll's in the boinc directory is damaged and trying to read an out of range memory location. if you uninstall and reinstall seti the damaged program or dll may not be overwritten. If you uninstall then wipe the boinc directory and re install your hd4670 should work,if opencl does not work with later catalyst drivers you will need to also install amd streaming sdk. |

I ran the Win32_v0.40_setup a few times, it pretty much cleared out that directory each time. I also tried a different app that's not in that installer. Considering no one else has gotten that class card to work with MBs, I wasn't holding my breath. I was hoping that my card was 'different', apparently, it's not. I looked through this thread again and don't see anything else to try http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/forum_thread.php?id=1965 The board in that machine has an unused video slot, I've asked Santa for a new GeForce GTX 650 for that machine... |

2 x 690 on a cheap MB (like an ASUS P8B75-M LE) a 1200W gold PSU, an cheap I7 or even a I5 2310 - with 4GB on WIN-7 64) makes a top cruncher for SETI that works 24/7, you could beat your chips on it. Just don´t forget a good well ventilated case. |

An elf told me Santa thinks I'll be happy with the GT 640 with over 3 times as many cores as my 8800, at faster speeds, and 4 times as much ram. Santa is hard to argue with, and if you press it, you end up on the wrong side of the list... |

after farther research the hd4670 may not natively support opencl as I rcall .40 lunatics driver have a setting for 4000 series cards but I never used it, I did use the 5000 series driver for an hd5570 and remember that is had to be setup just right to run correctly.enjoy the nvidia it will smoke the 4670. |
