Here's hoping for a positive improvement in attitudes and equal respect across a large swathe of our planet:

Unveiled Syrian Facebook post stirs women's rights debate

... The picture was of 21-year-old Dana Bakdounis, without the veil she had grown up wearing - and it polarised opinion. ...

All on our only planet,

No one should dictate to another how to live their life. Tolerance is a requirement.

But if a person (male or female) chooses to follow the edicts of their belief system. Are they wrong ?

Are "Western" sensibilities always "right" ?

Possibly, any system that says there is one law for one set of people and another for another set of people cannot be right.

Right or wrong according to who ? Most systems have some sort of imbalance in one way or another.

If the person concerned believes it is "right". Does anyone else have the right to say they are wrong. To tell someone else their beliefs are wrong is the ultimate in pomposity.

Exactly! You are describing the modern day contemporary liberal in the U.S. It is also the ultimate source of all war, poverty and crime.

Incorrect, they may be causes of war but not the ultimate source - that is equally held by Politics & Religion!

So you are saying the that girls in some countries should not be educated?
That religious leaders can condemn people to death, even though they have committed no crime as defined by the countries laws.
And that the caste system in India is ok?
