Hi..I am also a newbie and have many of the same questions.

Work is sent to two computers, each computer must return a result before that work is validated. The validator will then check the contents of the result files against each other, to see if they match. If they do, a copy of the result file is stored in the science database, the result files are discarded and credit is granted to both computers.

I feel a little foolish asking but why can't I see this graphic with my seti@home? Graphics only work on work that's done on the CPU. Your work consist mainly of OpenCL work, which is done on your AMD GPU. When work is done on the GPU, be it in CUDA (Nvidia), or OpenCL (mainly AMD here) format, then there's no graphics application sent along with the application, as the actual calculation is done on the graphics processing unit. While in a game it's no problem to drop out on one or more pixels, it's disastrous when that happens when doing OpenCL calculations. So to make sure that there's no chance that this happens, it's best to not show intricate 3D graphics of the same work when you run that work. Or so they think here... ;-) CPU work can be recognized by its version: Astropulse v6.01 GPU work is v6.04. ____________ Jord - BOINC FAQ Service - BOINC User Wiki Real is just a matter of perception.

I have several tasks that are waiting for validation.Nothing you can do. Anywhere from a second to a few months depending on exactly what happens. Typically either a couple of seconds or a few days. If you return yours after your wing mate's copy, it is a couple of seconds. If you are waiting on your wingmate, it is typically a few days. If you have to wait for a replacement because of a non-returned result, it will typically be a few weeks. If you have to wait for several replacements, it can run into months. You get credit granted (or not if your result does not match). One of the results that do match is stored in the master science database. About 24 hours later, the tasks are deleted from the user database. On your client, they will be seen after the next connection after validation as an increase in the credit for you and that computer. On the web site, it takes a few hours as these pages are cached for a while after they are accessed. On third party stats sites, sometime. The projects each periodically update a file that the stats sites pull down if it has changed. SETI tries to update the file once a day. However, it is one of the first things turned off when things are going wrong. The stats sites do a slow poll and only check once every few hours for a new update from each project. Only slightly different answers for timing for each of the different projects (SETI, Einstien, ...). That is a link or a menu item on the simple view (depends on the version). The current version has it as a menu item under the "veiw" menu.
