That's surprising coming from you WK.

Why, I usually use unlinked clues from other peoples posts to further my own knowledge. Either to get more and sometimes better information to backup or oppose their claims.

Our friend who is taking a holiday, always, without exception, leaves things so wide open, so that with only a little searching, one can bring up many other sources to oppose his views, quite often from the same person. Unfortunately he has a tendency to lose it, so that we have weeks to wait until the fun can begin again.

If a horse whipping is needed, it seems politicians should be the first to be on the receiving end.

Isn't the problem that they are Catholic? Seems to me like the Pope, bishops and cardinals need the horse whipping. Oh wait, they enjoy it!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flagellation
Some members of strict monastic orders, and some members of the lay organization Opus Dei, practice mild self-flagellation using an instrument called a "discipline", a cattail whip usually made of knotted cords, which is flung over the shoulders repeatedly during private prayer.[13] Pope John Paul II took the discipline regularly.[14]

Yes, and the church leaders too:

[...]
Full Statement by the Standing Committee of the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference on the equal and inalienable right to life of a mother and her unborn child:
[...]
* The Catholic Church has never taught that the life of a child in the womb should be preferred to that of a mother. By virtue of their common humanity a mother and her unborn baby are both sacred with an equal right to life.

* Where a seriously ill pregnant woman needs medical treatment which may put the life of her baby at risk, such treatments are ethically permissible provided every effort has been made to save the life of both the mother and her baby.

and if they'd stopped there, maybe doctors in Ireland would feel they had Church support to save a pregnant woman's life under circumstances similar to those of Savita's. They didn't:

* Whereas abortion is the direct and intentional destruction of an unborn baby and is gravely immoral in all circumstances, this is different from medical treatments which do not directly and intentionally seek to end the life of the unborn baby. Current law and medical guidelines in Ireland allow nurses and doctors in Irish hospitals to apply this vital distinction in practice while upholding the equal right to life of both a mother and her unborn baby.

"gravely immoral in all circumstances" wonderful. As for the law, this case from 1992 suggests that current law in Ireland includes "the right of Irish women to an abortion if a pregnant woman's life was at risk because of pregnancy"; 20 years later and the politicians are saying they won't be rushed into legislation.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

Actually, in this case, I think he wants someone else to say it is the ....... before he does, so he can then jump on and say it's fair game.

Hey, Thursday IS a holiday here in the US. Our friend has every right to not write as he celebrates and passages the rites.

I just did. It's catholics, or more broadly, christians.

No, unbending ideologues are the biggest problem.

Well, yes. Catholics are anti-gay, anti-reproductive health care, and anti-progress. From a modern day, center of the political spectrum, moderate liberal's perspective, those are right-wing extremist postions. What's worse than that?

Guy, "biggest" appears to be an absolute, I thought you were previously critical of liberals being "NARW"s? "anti-gay" and "anti-reproductive health care" would seem to be authoritarian positions, while "anti-progress" seems to be Luddite; authoritarians and Luddites are not necessarily extreme right wing.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

That's a pretty strong statement, Gary. Where do we put God in this scenario?
