I have been recently challenged by obtaining parts from dell for an experiment of mine. I cant remember having so much difficulty obtaining parts for a server. especially one that is only 3 years old.

Anyway, I bought a C410X PCIe computational expansion housing on ebay, dirt cheep.
Unfortunately it came without a single GPU sled ...
I called and emailed Dell and all I'm getting is a run around. "please provide us with additional information so we can connect you with the proper representative " ... questions I've answered 6 times now, and no one has called back.

When I did talk to a person (in parts), they did not have an online parts listing for the product and did not know what I was talking about. They took my number and promised to call me back , but as of yet I have not been contacted. The product is listed on Dell's website.
I've even posted on Dell's you tube V-log , where there are videos posted of the device and how to set it up.
The rep in that department also told me they would connect me with a knowledgeable representative and still I have not heard a word.

As much as this is a rant, I am hopeful there is a seti@home member that works for Dell that might be able to improve my chances of obtaining parts.

I would call back and instantly ask for a manager. If he doesn't solve the issue ask for his manager. If you keep doing this process you will get to someone who cares and gets a lackey to get you the right stuff.

That was the main idea. :-)

I normally just go to http://support.dell.com, enter my service tag, get the pat number, then search for a place to buy the part at a reasonable price.

The chassis/CPU fans in our 8-9 year old tower servers do like to drop dead like flies.

We have bought several things form these guys, http://myworld.ebay.com/savemyserver, for out PE2650 & PE 2850's too.

It has always been so simple for me in the past as well , however my service tag did not show up in their system.
